Plenty of info on the Temperance Groups. I have some interesting items circa 1825) from back then and smoking was a biggy.

It was really all about controlling men.

But what about controlling women?? They have their babies KILLED with the blessings of govenment. Sick...just plain sick...

We had an historic (baloney) house in the next town over. "The boys" built it so they could smoke and drink. Basically, it was a club house. The historian said it was because the women didn't want the smoke in the house but there's no documentation ("0") to back that up.

It was built in the 1930's so it's hardly historic....not in that area...

I checked into the folks living at that time. This was simply a club....had nothing to do with their old ladies....except to get away from them. There were actually a couple joints around Town...And rather exclusive to one set of immigrants.

Yep - and smokers warned everyone else about this slippery slope we are now witnessing.
