A woman who was given a $2.1million tax refund after filing a false claim went on a massive spending spree until she was caught.

Krystle Marie Reyes was only caught after she reported the Visa card containing the seven figure sum had been lost.

By that time she had already spent more than $150,000, including buying a car and other household items.

The 25-year-old from Salem, Oregon, had used Turbo Tax to file her income tax return for 2011.

She claimed earnings of $3million but used the tax calculator programme to claim a refund of $2.1million, Oregon Live reported.

Due to the size of the refund, her electronic claims was examined by several people within the Oregon Revenue Department.

Yeah, the local liberal rag wrote this story up as fraud happens when the state employee count is down. Only problem is, a human at the Oregon State Department of Revenue checked it.

We'd do better hiring Turbo Tax to check their own work, and to cross-check returns. Just the picture of that scammer woman screamed FRAUD!

It was the Oregon Revenue Department, not IRS ... but your question is still valid.

It was an electronic filing. Oregon didn't get it until the Feds were through with it.

With an electronic filing, the feds get it first, then Oregon. Thta said, Oregon’s had some real computer issues (esp. in the former Kitzhaber Administration.

My BIL defines these people as the kind that would win Lotto and BUY a trailer at the park.

Several years ago, there was a guy here at the Jersey Shore who was legally blind. He won five million in the NJ Lottery. First thing he did was go out and buy a car!
