My remedy for gun crimes:
1. Gun crime with no shots fired: 10 years at hard labor.
2. Gun crime with injury but no fatalities: 25 years hard labor.
3. Gun crime with fatalities: 20 minutes to say your prayers.

You realize though that certain elements in the current regime would like to criminalize self-defense and property-defense which involve their demented concept of "excessive force" (aka involving a firearm)?
If Zimmerman is convicted of "something" against Trayvon, then according to your proposal he would have 20 min to say his prayers. Might want to rethinnk that...
