I agree whole-heartedly. The flooding from last year’s monsoon rains caused much more environmental damage that a few ‘dozers would. In a previous article, the area was described as a ‘moonscape’.

Simply set fire to the forest during the dry season when the wind is brisk.

That's what caused the problem in the first place. The trees burned off last year, then seasonal rains created landslides that buried the lines and valves under 12-16 feet of earth and boulders the size of Volkswagens.

Why aren’t the people bringing in some heavy equipment? Is it that they can’t afford it or they’re afraid of the big bad gubmint? I say bring in the dozers and get this ‘Battle of Athens’ on the road!

They're trying to obey the law and not give the Feds an excuse to completely deny them their water. I guess Tombstone has joined the 21st Century. However, we still have a lot of people around, including our Sheriff, who are this close to crossing the line.

Hopefully, the Jarbridge Road approach will work and we can make Judge Zapata eat his words.

I realized it was a dumb idea the second I posted it. The forest is part of the watershed for the springs and lake.

And it was probably bad form for me to respond that way.

Burns my biscuits to hear the Forest Service idiots cry about all the incidental environmental damage a bulldozer will do to the area after what the mudslides did.

Mules and drag-pans will still work. Hard to find but there are still some around.

Technically I figure you are right but then that is just one in a very long list of things the federal government does without legal authority.

Here’s a link to the photo album on the Tombstone Shovel Brigade’s Facebook page.

They plan to add more today and tomorrow as the workdays progress.

From the Tombstone Gazette

“Harvey T.”, as he is known, rode 422 miles to deliver this shovel, pictured above with Kevin Rudd. This shovel was used in the opening of The Jarbridge, Nevada, South Canyon Road in 2002, by “The Jarbridge Shovel Brigade”

It’s a PDF file, but here’s the link with Harvey T’s picture.
