The Toba supereruption 70,000 years ago led to a 6-10 year volcanic winter that almost wiped out the human population worldwide, down to 10,000 souls or 1,000 breeding pairs. This bottleneck in the population still shows up in the genes of everyone on earth and was a puzzle until gene researchers compared notes with geologists.

Correct, except it was far more than 6-10 years.

At it’s peak, temps worldwide dropped 10 degrees Celsius.
The O14-O16 ratios trapped in ocean sediments didn’t return to what was normal for almost a thousand years!

Well, that means I come from good (and very, very busy) stock. You would think they spent all their time farming, feuding and.... stuff.
