Big Labor's Big Boo Boo (Their Wisconsin Mulligan Shanks Right)
American Thinker ^ | June 6, 2012 | C. Edmund Wright

Wow. Where to start? The "it's gonna be a late night in Madison" notion was virtually over by the end of Happy Hour -- which no doubt did cause some very late nights instead in Washington and Chicago. With little or no happiness at all. And naturally there were also the comparisons to the vibes of the night Scott Brown took down the Kennedy seat in 2009. More on both of these dynamics shortly. The real story is: what happened this spring in Wisconsin was not a recall election at all. Pure and simple, it was a mulligan. A childish do-over. Moreover, it was a battle of government union members and their families against pretty much everyone else. And when that really crystallized in the minds of the voters, the unions' cause was doomed. The name Tom Barrett is irrelevant here. The biggest losers last night -- and there were many -- were big labor generally and public service unions specifically.

This was all about public sector unions and the government class getting their rear ends kicked.

I was worried that voter fraud might come into play here, and I’m not saying that it didn’t. But, if it did, it was held to a minimum and I hope that will also be the case in November. I’m pretty well convinced that many Democrat victories in the past have occurred as a result of voter fraud.

The Money Shot was buried all the way at the bottom:

The liberals, their unions, their President, their media -- all have to be defeated because there is no working with them.

Why compromise, when you can WIN?

How much money has the Unions lost in Wisconsin Election

Everyone talks about Walker's money on MSNBC not a word on what Unions spent.

Excellent analysis.

The local "newspaper" here had the story about Governor Walker's victory buried in disappearingly small print at the bottom of their "Politics" section this morning.

Since they're unofficially a propaganda organ for the Dems, I consider it confirmation of how deeply this victory damages them and how aware they are of it.

"Everyone talks about Walker's money on MSNBC not a word on what Unions spent."

It's funny how Ed Shultz never complained about the money when Barry outspent McCain 3-1 in 2008.

A childish do-over.
Saw an adult male union thug interviewed this morning and he was exclaiming - in between sobs - "America as we know it ended last night."
Liberalism ... truly a mental disease.

I think another big loser are those who argue that Walker stayed in office because Wisconsin voters do not like to recall elected officials—except for officials guilty of malfeasance.

This excuse was invented late in the game when the Democrats knew they were going to lose and this was their face-saver.

There were poll watchers watching poll watchers this time around.

We have thousands of Freepers reading this. If we can get those poll watchers to the polls in WI for November's elections and get 5,000 more poll watchers in other states by November, that would be 100 extra sets of eyes per state. It's not enough to eliminate fraud, but it's a good start. http://truethevote.org/ has a link for poll watcher training and other election volunteer work. If JimRob is influential enough to make the Dixie Chicks disappear from the radio, and to bring down Dan Rather (okay Buckhead started that almost single-handed, but JimRob created the forum), he's big enough to take a huge bite out of Dem vote fraud in quite a few states.

Years ago President Franklin Roosevelt called the idea of public sector unions "unthinkable and intolerable." Not long after, AFL-CIO President George Meany declared that it was "impossible to bargain collectively with the government." They were both speaking to the morality of public servants making demands on taxpayers' earnings under the threat of withholding public services -- or as FDR put it, "looking toward the paralysis of government by those who have sworn to support it." "Stroke of the pen. Law of the land. Kinda cool." --Clinton presidential aide Paul Begala, July 1998

Public Service doesn't mean you're to be serviced by the public for life

President Kennedy’s Executive Order 10998, allowing Federal unions, is what opened the door for public sector unions at the state and local level, which is leading to bankruptcy from bloated public sector salaries, benefits, and retirement plans. Businesses that offered plans like many governments have would go bankrupt. Gov’t entities will, too, eventually, but it will be much more painful.

This is why unions should again be outlawed for public employees.

When collective bargaining was brought into American schools in the 1960s, it was a revenue stream and power base for Big Labor. Suddenly, union bosses became more interested in building political muscle than educating children.

At that point the battle between unions and school boards became more focused on salary, benefits, pensions and working conditions for adults, and less about students.

Kids are only pawns in the self-serving union game.

What is the purpose of teacher unions? To work for children? Establish new and better requirements? Push their members to better serve parents and children?

"Despite what some among us would like to believe, it is not because of our creative ideas. It is not because of the merit of our positions. It is not because we care about children. And it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child. NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power. And we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues each year because they believe that we are the unions that can most effectively represent them, the unions that can protect their rights and advance their interests as education employees" ...National Education Association's just-retired General Counsel Bob Chanin. (The NEA is the County and State Association's parent body).

NEA General Counsel Bob Chanin Says Farewell:

VIDEO

As legendary New York teachers union leader Albert Shanker said, "When school children start paying union dues, that's when I'll start representing the interests of school children."

All government unions should be banned. The idea that government workers need protection from guess who?? THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, is ridiculous. remember, teachers are government employees. Ban government unions.

.

The biggest losers last night -- and there were many -- were big labor generally and public service unions specifically.

I've wondered from time to time on just how the appellation "big" labor got associated with the labor unions and after Wisconsin I think I've figured it out.

"Big labor" is the MSM's means of helping union leaders deal with either their 'inadequacy' issues or their 'little big man' issues.

Either way, this loss must be damaging to their psyche. Union people have some real issues that need to be addressed and acting as enablers by giving them cute names isn't doing them any favors.
