A group of monks making some extra cash by building caskets doesnt sound like a bad idea. * * * The problem is that the state of Louisiana prohibits anyone but licensed funeral directors from selling funeral merchandise and issued a cease-and-desist order to the monks with the possibility of thousands in fines and even a potential criminal prosecution.

IIRC, in the '80s there were people using caskets for coffee tables and other furniture uses, figuring they'd get some mileage out of the pretty box before they had to use it for more conventional purposes.
