What’s interesting is that the Army is now running the second stage of its procurement program to find the replacement for the M4 and one of the likeliest contenders is the Remington ACR designed by Magpul.
The chief offender with M16 failures has always been the fault of the magazine, and the chief offenders in US military small arms procurement has always been the US Army. Thier idiot twitbag top level officers can’t even decide on camo patterns, uniforms, or if soldiers should be wearing berets or not.
Let the Marine Corps decide for the Army this time, for a change.
A former soldier couldn’t agree with you more Kid. Semper Fi and God bless the Armed Forces of the United States.
from what i've read is, the problems really started with shortening the barrel... timing was effected and it cascaded from there to opening the gas port that led to extraction failures that led to stiffer extraction springs that led to broken extractors and locking lugs along with faster bolt speed that led to failure to feed because the bolt was outrunning the magazine spring that led to stiffer mag springs, that in turn, led to more failure to feed problems
Real mature, there... As a retired Army grunt, I agree the beret worn by all is absurd. However, there are goof-balls in every service - I deeply admire the Marine Corps, but they have the same amount of politically correct career climbers as any other service. They have, thankfully, have kept their uniforms dignified and simple, though.
