You wouldn’t happen to know if folks who served on a ship about to be decommissioned would get to be there for the ceremony, would you?

Should be able to. I do not know though when she is scheduled to decom. Here’s the US Navy site on her. You can probably contact them, tell them of your service and desire to be there...and I bet they will let you know when it is and what you have to do.
