You have a justifiable pride in your homeland.

However, I see Turkey changing, and not for the better. Along with the rest of the Islamic world, it is falling into the Salafist sphere. Secular, nationalist governments are being overthrown and replaced by Salafist regimes founded on ultra-conservative interpretations of sharia. This is in no small part due to the Saudi training and funding of imams to spread their Wahabist doctrine. It is undermining the secular Turkish state.

Erdogan is playing a dangerous game with his Islamist ties. After making great economic and diplomatic strides in his first term, he is trending toward authoritarianism. I don’t think Ataturk would be at all pleased with the recent direction of the political scene in Turkey.
