A neighborhood argument ended with a stinky stunt that left one man facing a $180 fine.

The prankster admitted to police that he shoved a plastic bag filled with dog feces into his neighbor's mailbox. But he's not just any neighbor - he was once an instructor at the University of Georgia and he was also a high-ranking executive at CNN.

Bob Furnad walked his dog right past his neighbor's driveway last weekend and that's when he placed a plastic bag full of dog feces inside his neighbor's mailbox. But Furnad didn't count on getting caught red-handed on surveillance video.

"What's the argument about?" asked CBS Atlanta News reporter Steve Kiggins to Benjamin Dameron, Furnad's neighbor.

"I have no idea, no clue," replied Dameron.

Neighbors Benjamin Dameron and Ralph Miller can't understand why their neighbor would do such a thing.

"We were working, getting ready for a wedding and we were out on the driveway," explained Dameron. "We thought, well, we're this close, we'll check the mail box to see if the mail's come."

"Something had come," said Kiggins.

"Something had, a package," said Miller.

"It doesn't happen very often," said Capt. Kem Malcom with the Covington Police Department. "In this situation the victims actually had video. "

You can see on the video a pooch stroll past the Worthington Manor in Covington, where Dameron and Miller live. Only moments later, Furnad walked up to the mail box, stuffed something inside and walked away.

"Mr. Furnad stated that he did place a bag containing dog feces in the victim's mail box," Malcom said.

"Did he say why?" asked Kiggins.

"He said an ongoing feud between the two individuals,"explained Malcom.

LinkedIn webpage said he used to teach at the University of Georgia and that he was an executive with CNN.

Considering that the perp was a professor, this doesn’t surprise me a bit, after what we’ve seen here in Wisconsin this past year. This is a typical, childish, teacher prank.

And a union one. I used to live next door to a Teamster who just lived to do stuff like this. Coulda been very wealthy if he had plowed just 1/10 of that effort into doing something productive.

Laura Ann Sills, DGK vice president of administration, presents Bob Furnad with the 2009 Distinguished Achievement Award in Broadcasting.

His last three years at CNN, Furnad was president of CNN Headline News, CNN Radio, CNN Airport Network and CNN Newsource. He reorganized and re-launched Headline News, creating new work procedures utilizing the latest technologies resulting in lower cost and more resources for news gathering and creating production elements. He retired in January 2001 after 17 years at CNN.

Also, in 2001, Furnad worked on a television news project for the Kuwait government and, as part of Intelligent Media Consultants, worked with executives at the NDTV networks in India. That same year, he joined the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication as a visiting associate professor. He retired from UGA in May 2006.

"Neighbors Benjamin Dameron and Ralph Miller..."

A couple? Was this a "hate crime" by the CNN professor?

It will be interesting to see if the US Postal service charges the perp.
Messing with the mail is a serious offense. Or putting mess in the mail as the case may be.

The USPS Domestic Mail Manual states that “no part of a mail receptacle may be used to deliver any matter not bearing postage, including items of matter placed upon, supported by, attached to, hung from, or inserted into a mail receptacle.” In other words, the mailbox may not be used for anything other than for pieces of mail with postage attached. The USPS Domestic Mail Manual goes on to states that it is a federal offense and there is a significant penalty for violating this law which could include jail time.

It’s a federal offense to mess with anybody’s mailbox, but of course he won’t be charged.

What are things coming to when you can’t give your neighbor a piece of your mind?

It's not just anybody's mail box. It belongs to the U.S. government, even if you bought it and installed it yourself.

She’s cute. And he’s got a pretty firm grip on her waist. Must be nice to work there.
