I used to fly it in internet WWII battles. If you had some altitude and came up against german (or japanes, for that matter) planes and needed to bug out, you could just drop like a rock and usually make it to safety before anyone caught up.

P-47 fans really need to see this internet archive of www.rareybird.com, a former tribute website put together by a Jug pilot's son. The son passed away a few years ago now and I guess the remaining family members weren't interested in maintaining the site. All that's left of it now is what was copied by the Wayback Machine. The P-47 stuff begins in Volume III.

George Rarey was a talented amateur cartoonist, as the illustrations from his journal show. The archives caught most of that stuff, thankfully.
