“I think they know this was not what they wanted.”
You’re right.
“Matthews wasnt buying it.”
Broken clock and all that.
“And at the same time they were contradicting themselves by praising Obama for being brave. That is really laughable.”
It’s hypocracy at it’s very best (or worst).
I was arguing with a liberal friend and asked if he thought it was "courageous" when Newt Gingrich promised his voters that he'd build a base on Mars if he's elected President. That's far more "progress" than NASA's ever had before. Still haven't gotten an answer on that one (of course he knows Newt was pandering to his voters on that one to get them excited about a "Gingrich presidency", just like Obama is doing for his base)
Matthews is plenty liberal but he is also much more pragmatic then the liberal (progressive) zealots on the other shows. He has consistently looked at the big picture, that losing congress and the White House would be worse for them then holding out on a principle.
For example, during the Obama-care bill progression he was lecturing House Dems to drop demands for a public plan because they just would never be able to get it passed in the Senate, and failure to pass something called Health reform would destroy Obama more than any crappy passed bill could.
The lib zealots always cherry-pick polls then extrapolate to argue that most of America is on their side on each issue, they were doing the same with the public plan.
