I've read that the best instructors don't teach to shoot at a target from a distance. They teach to shoot at point blank range first which is where most stand your ground situations take place.

You're reading BS. The best instructors teach you how to use your sights. It's one aspect of learning how to run the gun so the bullet hits its intended target. Any moron can pick up a weapon and pull the trigger.
