(Well that would have been "news" to OT prophets Daniel & Isaiah:)
Daniel:
2 Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake: some to everlasting life, others to SHAME and EVERLASTING contempt. (Chapter 12)
Isaiah:
24 And they will go out and look on the dead bodies of those who rebelled against me; the worms that eat them will not die, the fire that burns them will not be quenched, and they will be loathsome to all mankind. (Chapter 66)
Tell us, Eastforker...have you EVER heard of a natural fire that burns bodies on this planet forever and ever? If it's an "unquenchable" fire of only the body -- those bodies would soon turn to ashes.
So how do we know the prophet Isaiah was referencing something eternal?
Jesus was Jewish...Here's what is recorded in the book of Mark as coming from Jesus' lips:
43 If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into HELL, where the fire never goes out. ...45 And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into HELL....47 And if your eye causes you to stumble, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into HELL, 48 where the worms that eat them do not die, and the fire is not quenched. (Chapter 9)
Obviously, Jesus -- quoting Isaiah 66:24 -- says Isaiah is referencing eternal hell!
Oh, such lovely sayings, makes want to jump right in.
