According to this three were sworn uniformed deputies.

Without looking at your link... if that is true, then union rules do not defend members from breaking ranks with the Sheriff... what does that tell you?

I know Police Departments are unionized, but I am not so sure that Sheriff’s offices are. Besides that Virginia is a right to work state, so even if a company, or other entity, has unions working for it, you do not have to join the union to work there.
