OHARA, Pa. Tagg Romney, the eldest son of presidential candidate Mitt Romney, announced via Twitter that he and his wife Jen have new twin boys, delivered by a surrogate today.
Happy 2 announce birth of twin boys David Mitt and William Ryder. Big thanks to our surrogate. Life is a miracle, Tagg tweeting, linking to a photo of himself and one of his new sons.
This the second time that Tagg, 42, and his wife, Jen,39, have used a surrogate. The same surrogate was used for the twins carried their youngest son Jonathan, who was born in August of 2010. Their other three children were not born via surrogacy.

Kind of like the way his father Willard got the [R] nomination through “surrogates” (attacking the real Conservatives).
“No way this granddad is going to stand up for traditional family values. Not gonna happen.”
Are you saying that because Mitt Romney’s son had children via surrogate, MR will not stand for traditional values? What does using a surrogate cause someone to not have traditional family values??
MR doesn’t have traditional family values, but that has NOTHING to do with his son using a surrogate.
this is cool. progressive. but spending time with your deceased infant is weird; especially to a society that kills them for profit.
Even though a couple was recently reported to have gone to a morgue to view their deceased baby one last time and instead found the child to be alive.
some consider the idea a bit non-traditional.
Abort. Abort. Abort.... oh wait, too late. Or, is it? hmm
Just as Sarah Palin isn’t going to stand up for traditional family values after her teenaged daughter became pregnant out of wedlock?
Using a surrogate to bring children into the world...evil bastards!!!
Don’t forget paying off the surrogates. Basically, purchasing the baby!
Unless surrogate is code for sister wife.
Or maybe they just have so much money they don't want to bother with actually being pregnant.
Triple evil bastards!!!
So are heart transplants and organ donations and every other type of modern medicine breakthroughs.
The difference is that there is a traditional way to have babies. There is no traditional ways to have heart transplant and organ donations.
Just as Sarah Palin isnt going to stand up for traditional family values after her teenaged daughter became pregnant out of wedlock?
Good for you SuzyQue.
I can’t stand “pious’ jerks.
“The difference is that there is a traditional way to have babies.”
Next, you’ll be saying that only children conceived using the missionary position should be allowed to live. Sheesh.
I think John and Elizabeth Edwards might have avoided a lot of very ugly publicity if they had just claimed that Johnny’s last child was born by a “surrogate” for them. Aside from DNA tests (which can’t be compelled), how does an outsider know that a couple’s “birth by a surrogate” is not in fact just the product of the husband’s extramarital affair?
Wow. You ever do it other than the Missionary Position?
Two children are born, and most here are spewing hate...lovely.
Well, evidently not here on FreeRepublic.
How horrible! Isn’t that illegal?
Rent-a-womb is very dangerous social policy.
No one does this for fun. They wanted more children and for some reason, she could not have any more the usual way.
It’s her egg and his sperm. What’s the problem.
Better than what Mary Cheney and her “spouse” did.
It’s called fake/better than thou piety.

Yes, maybe John could have avoided his current court battle if they had lied and said Reilly was a surrogate. John’s probably smacking himself for not thinking of that first. Maybe he did and Elizabeth wouldn’t go along with it :)
“Next, youll be saying that only children conceived using the missionary position should be allowed to live. Sheesh.”
Well, there have been many “positions”, traditionally speaking. All result in natural insemination.
But the matter here is an artificial/unnatural insemination and the fertilized egg being unnaturally implanted on the “womb”. There is nothing natural about this. It is like making ice-cubes. Nothing natural about it.
Hey jerk, read the article. They already have 3 other children that were not born via a surrogate.
Congratulations to the Romneys on the birth of their two new children!
To those of you using this as an excuse to attack his father, I say “Pffft!”
Like I said, there is nothing “natural” about having someone else’ organ transplanted into you, either. But I’m sure you wouldn’t care if you needed one.
For some reason, Tagg Romney and his wife needed a surrogate. Nothing wrong with that and not our business.
No spewing of hate from me. I’m a Catholic, and I believe we stand alone in prohibiting the following: contraception (other than NFP for legitimate reasons), artificial insemination, and surrogates.
I am guessing too much polygamist Mormon inbreeding is keeping them from having a child naturally.
Or maybe they just have so much money they don’t want to bother with actually being pregnant.
You are an arrogant ass.
I bet you call yourself a Christian, too.
Two babies are born and you come up with that kind of hate.
So does that mean you never use ice-cubes? Or air conditioning? None of that is natural. And I assume you never drive a car, since the natural way to get around is to walk... How far do you want to take this argument?
I'm not a fan of surrogacy - if an infertile couple wants kids, I think adoption is a much more loving option - but your attitude about the whole topic is very annoying.
OH bull.
The gift of a child is precious no matter how it arrives..
I’m the mother of an adopted child and he was raised Conservative and is a fantastic adult now..
the new Romney kids will have a great life..I’m thrilled for them.
Oooooohhh! Cutting right to the point! That was a good one. Touche.
I wasn’t directing that at everyone...we’re good :)
Rent-a- womb isagainst the law in France and most European countries.
This is dangerous social policy and can lead to all forms of horrible consequences.
What happened to you so-called conservatives? Surrogate mothers, rent-a- womb, using fetus stem cells for research; where is your moral consistency?
“For some reason, Tagg Romney and his wife needed a surrogate. Nothing wrong with that and not our business.”
There in lies the problem. They needed the surrogate to create unnatural babies. Even rape makes babies, naturally. Even crack-whores make babies, naturally. Those rape and drug babies exist for natural purposes. AI, however, is purely unnatural.
The “reason” they wanted a surrogate was to create them some babies. They already had children. So, you can’t claim childless couple (that would not make it any better). So, they did it just to create unnatural babies. Everything is wrong with that.
I am not going into their house and saying them on their faces. I will however voice my opinion when raised the topic.
Who writes this stuff? I think their "youngest son" is the second born twin who was just delivered. Geeeesh!
I checked to make sure I didn't accidentally go to Democrat Underground...sure reads like some of their stupid insulting remarks.
The simple explanation, and the usual reason in most of these cases, is that the wife is infertile or has had multiple failures to carry to term. She is 39 after all, and if she hasn’t already had children her time is up.
Everyone I know who has been in this position has already tried all sorts of fertility treatments. This is the last option.
I’m happy for them.
and you see these two events as identical?
fear for the republic.
How did you make the leap from surrogate mothers to fetal stem cell research?
One option creates life, the other extinguishes it. I think there is a HUGE difference between the two.
Surrogate motherhood or Rent-a- womb, is going against God’s will.
Most evangelicals, Catholics, and orthodox Jews are against this practice.
Just come right out and say you don’t like the Romneys.
I know I don’t. Here they basically rented a womb ....
And what kind of stupid name is `Tag’ anyway?
Missionary position? Hey, too much information girlfriend!
This isn’t The View: Spare us the details of your sex life, OK?
Let’s get back to Mitt. I can see the grandkids going to `Tag’ and asking, “Um, Tag, Dad—is granddad alive? He hasn’t moved all day ..... “
Guess I told the gun=grabbing, abortionist, homo Rhomnoids,
huh Tex?
Don’t let the lefty bass-turds grind you down: Screw `em!
None of this is any of my business, or anyone else’s. I don’t “get” why they have to announce a birth as surrogate (tho I guess it’s pretty obvious his wife wasn’t carrying). 3 children born within 2 years by the same surrogate seems a bit much, given they already had three children born without a surrogate. Maybe it’d be more understandable to us more traditional types had they not had the first three.
So who was the surrogate, the father or the mother?
The teenage Palin had her baby naturally. The conception was natural, magical, and blessed. The conception was not due to a doctor breaking the egg-wall, injecting the sperm into it, and then implanting it in a rented-womb.
AI is evil and twisted. Those doing AI(doctors, “parents”, and surrogates) should be in jail.
Let’s factory produce the babies... just need a sperm, an egg, an a womb!
