My understanding is that Wikileaks had published the nickname of the courier and the Administration’s hand, or at least the timing, was forced. Otherwise the operation might have taken place one week before the election.

Tantalizing claim. I wouldn’t have been surprised to see it timed for maximum election impact. Why? Because the Left certainly said often enough Bush was going to kill or capture Osama for election advantage.
