The Soviet history is hard to find in English. There is a good overview here that touches on a lot of interesting topics (such as how the partisans coped with major cultural differences in their ranks). Sajer's perpetually-in-print Forgotten Soldier offers some grim detail (from the anti-partisan's perspective) as well.
