Well, George Reeves was a notorious alcoholic who was having an affair with the wife of a local L.A. mob guy. The story was pretty sorted, but the "Superman" connection is a fiction. I think most people believe the story you heard.

I'm not sure how many of Ganz' films got American theatrical releases, but I see as many as I can since discovering "Wings of Desire" in a movie art house.

No little internet oddity can hurt him since most Americans don't even know who he is. He does French, German, Italian and American movies. "The Last Days of Chez Nous" is Australian. I have "Downfall", but won't watch it because I don't want to see him as Hitler.

The worst part about watching Hitler in “Untergang” is that he appears almost human to the point of banality. He berates his generals but treats his secretaries with kindness and even gives his henchmen leave to get out of Berlin to save their miserable hides.

I watched it with horrid fascination & mixed feelings. Hope it gave its German viewers some food for thought.
