Mark Levin: The Speech Romney Should Give.
http://spectator.org/blog/2012/04/17/mark-levin-the-speech-romney-s ^ | April 17, 2012 | Jeffrey Lord

I saw this posted on Real Clear Politics, and it's worth a listen by the Romney people.

It's an audio of Mark Levin on "The Speech Romney Should Give."

Governor Romney gave a speech to a group of wealthy supporters and made the classic moderate Republican mistake of dissing "true believers" -- i.e., conservatives.

Somebody on Team Romney needs to have a discussion on conservatives with the candidate. The Governor is clearly a smart guy, a good man and he would be head and shoulders a better president than his soon-to-be opponent.

But if this attitude persists it can either lose an election that shouldn't be lost… or lose an administration that will need every last bit of conservative support to succeed.

Get real. Santorum was the last true conservative standing with 11 state wins and over 3 million votes cast. He unfortunately withdrew for family reasons and lack of cash. Newt is not even in the game. He’s polling in single digits. At this point what Gingrich says or does is of no consequence. We need to make the best of a bad situation and concentrate on the VP choice. Gingrich himself says he plans to influence the party platform and has conceded that Romney is the likely nominee. This game is over. We need to stop eating our own like Levin, Rush, and Hannity. This is now a salvage operation. Every conservative knows this. The delegate and pollng numbers tell the story. It’s anybody but Obama. Period.

The First Patriots who carried General Washington across the Delaware, with his Army, to attack the Brits, never found anything too cold, too dark, or having too much ice.

They were naturally resistant to the cold, and their night vision was vastly improved over that of others, and as for ice, they could slide right along, ever upright.

They'd marched barefoot into Valley Forge ~ and they could have marched back up the way just as barefoot.

Their brothers, cousins, fathers and sons had fought bravely in the Flying Geese to protect Washington and his Army as they retreated from New York.

They never surrendered.

You know, your "man" caved, picked up his marbles and went home, he didn't like the amount of debt he was accumulating, is how he put it. Guess what? I doubt Newt likes the amount of debt he is accumulating, but he's still in and he's still fighting, and if you had any sense, you'd be trying to help him, instead of being held captive by your Newt hate, and Santorum obsession.

There is a principled conservative still in the race, whether you want to admit to it or not.

You live with your conscience, I'll live with mine.

Bwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Levin has chosen to support an abortion loving, homosexual pushing liar. In other words a man who has commited crimes against humanity. You know? Those little Baby’s. And has loosed those deviant sexual preditors upon innocent children. That’s right, close your eyes and this truth will suddenly disapear!

And I’m delusional?

Who the hell raises a white flag before the battle has even begun? LIFE is the first domino, and if you knock that down everything else will fall with it.
Levin could have just as easily supported Newt period.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

You couldn’t shine Levin’s shoes.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Why would I want to? Is he a God of something?

Or, to bring in the sympathy vote, simply have a massive coronary or stroke ~ I think Newt would be able to step into the shoes of the leading candidate with little effort ~ even make a masterful funeral oration.

Think big. Romney's just another candidate ~

Oh my gosh, this was so beautiful. So beautiful. If we can do no other in their honor, at the least we can never surrender.

You said it so much better than me. Brevity is brilliance in this case. Thank you so much.

The ads that ran here all had Newt’s PAC listed in the disclaimer. I suppose you would call them mild as I have heard much harsher out of Gingrich’s supporters on FR. They spent over half the ad on Santorum, then switched to Romney as if the two were the same. I know candidates are not supposed to communicate with the PACS, and in Newt’s case I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

==> this makes me wonder a bit: “He’s had two weeks of being the alternative,” Gingrich said of Santorum. “I think there are profound reasons why Rick lost his Senate race by the largest margin in Pennsylvania history.”

The Knoxville Republican made his announcement in a post on his blog. In an interview, Campfield said he believes that conservatives need to unite behind a single candidate and that Santorum is best positioned to defeat “establishment Republican” candidate Mitt Romney.

Campfield’s decision comes after a conversation with Santorum earlier this week.

In his blog post, Campfield said he was “twisted inside because of my loyalty to Newt, my loyalty must first lie with my country and getting a country with a conservative leader must take precedence to my own personal whims of fancy.

==> I knew about the resignation. I seem to have a great deal of difficulty locating anything about delegates switching. Can you help me out here?

I actually like your description of Washington crossing the Delaware and what would have happened if the men panicked and ran away

Keep praying and expect a miracle!

Those talking heads are always talking admiringly and writing books about the founding of this nation and the Declaration and call themselves the Defender of the Constitution, and saying the people need to emulate the the Founding Fathers and calling each other Great Americans, ad nauseum, but when the going gets tough, they all start running away from the line of fire.

They have no loyalty to the other conservatives that live in other parts of this nation, or who are working for some other conservative than the one they themselves have chosen to support. If their own chosen conservative loses, they want to pick up their marbles and go home, or throw in with the big-wigs! They do not support the convention system with its grass-roots-based orderly pattern of decision-making which mirrors our democratic-republican form of government.

These guys are into top-down control of the little people nearly as much as the socialists are!

In other words, they pretty much behave like dems and the MSM... see, I never believed that before.

Newt never considered Santorum a fiscal conservative because of a lot of his big govt votes, there were many. And that was the comparison, almost a bullet point, romney v rick of financial conservatism. A legitimate point.

==> this makes me wonder a bit: “He’s had two weeks of being the alternative,” Gingrich said of Santorum. “I think there are profound reasons why Rick lost his Senate race by the largest margin in Pennsylvania history.”

This was the sunday before Santorum quit. Newt wasn't campaigning in PA. And for two weeks, after WI, the field was pretty much rick v mitt, and santorum had lost something over 25 points in the preceding 4 weeks to romney, and wasn't making that up despite Newt's absence.

Plus the fact, Rick was facing $2 mil of mitt's negative ads in PA. They hadn't even started running yet, and Santorum had lost 25 points, and once Mitts negative ads start, well, look out...

The following pretty much says it all, and Newt's campaign felt so strongly they plan to deal with it at the convention.

Campfield was a member of the HOUSE GOP in Tenn, and has some problems with some incendiary statements he made, and needs the GOP behind him. That, at least to me, appears to be the reason he switched 24 hours before the voting. I mean, COME ON.

Nice vanity there.

I don’t agree with your prediction of how this thing plays out, nor was there a thing “ungracious” about the 2008 VP candidate weighing in and testing the water at any time or in any way, nor do you have the knowledge of what anybody else is doing in their own plan to stop the advance of progressivism whether implemented by Obama or Romney, to say what they are or aren’t doing is the same as voting for Obama.

However, your vanity post holds the key to understanding what Levin, Rush, Hannity, Beck, Bolling, Cavuto and Kudlow et al- all these allegedly free-market conservative talking heads who have gone for Romney and abandoned the field prematurely - they all have something in common that the founders of the country had - military experience - the founders having it in the French and Indian War and later during the Revolutionary war - and the alleged conservative talkers lacking any of it.

I will NEVER vote for a liberal posing as a Republican for as long as I live. I don't care if Armageddon is on the line (which may be the case here) I WON'T DO IT!

The last time I voted for a liberal posing as a Republican was when I voted for this idiot for Mayor in 2001 here in New York city because at the time he seemed the best choice and was endorsed by Rudy Guliani who I once respected....

Now here I am over 10 years later living under Despotism with this psychopath the Despot issuing edicts almost everyday.

The Constitution - Gone! (only out of state OWS protestors and Muslims who want to bring grief to the 911 families have constitutional rights it seems) Individual freedoms -Gone! Property rights - Gone! Privacy - Gone! My money - Gone! - every week to support welfare breeding cows. How the private sector wants to conduct legal business - Gone! How people want to spend their night out - Gone! How people want to eat - Gone! How people want to drink - Gone! How people want to do anything - GONE GONE GONE!

We are only allowed to do what the Depot allows us to do!

Today he issued another decree that all apartment building owners must send a list to the city of all the apartments in the building that "has smoking"...In other words "tell us who is smoking"...AKA the Nazi decree "tell us how many Jews are in your tenement".

And this is just the tip of the iceberg with this absolute freakin psychopath. A few months ago he wanted to ban booze! That's right, PROHIBITION! Oh yes, then he confiscated food donated to the homeless because he did not deem it "nutritious". Oh yes and if you miss paying a couple parking tickets from his traffic scams, say goodbye to your car which has happened to me TWICE already. That's right, your property is stolen by the city of New Yor because you were foolish to leave it parked in the street LEGALLY or what use to be legally.

Oh yes, and TERM LIMITS?? Forget about that! The Despot is able to do away with that and make himself RULER FOR LIFE! THIS IS WHAT YOU GET WHEN YOU VOTE FOR A LIBERAL POSING AS A REUBLICAN. ALWAYS CHECK OUT A CANDIDATES HISTORY! This a-hole was from Assachussets and I would have NEVER have voted for him if I knew that because like my Grandma use to tell me "Never trust a politician from Assachussets(which is how she use to pronounce it)"...My God, she was so right.

This is a real eyeview of what it likes in NYC. I am glad you are so enraged, and I think people are going to catch up with you eventually. I hadn't heard about a lot of these things, but I did hear about the food being banned from the homeless, without a single instance of it ever being tainted. That's defies not only logic but any sense of compassion or empathy. Maybe this time, New Yorkers will finally learn. :)

Conservative Republicans like Levin are the Frog, Romney is the Scorpion.

A scorpion wanted to cross a river, so he asked the frog to carry him. The frog refused because the scorpion would sting him.

“That would not be logical,” explained the scorpion, “because if I sting you we will both drown.”

So the frog agreed to carry the scorpion.

Half way across, the frog felt a terrible pain - the scorpion had stung him.

“There is no logic in this,” exclaimed the frog, as he began to sink beneath the waves.

“I know,” replied the scorpion, “but I cannot help it - it is my character.”

Exactly, but after years of rants, and words and books about conservative principles and the feckless GOP establishment, why are they falling for it all again this time? That to me, is the question.

If one is to be so pure about 'conservatives' that it causes a label to be placed on Levin and Rush as "so-called conservatives", then one can dig up sufficient "quotes" and "positions" (on one called "Newt Gingrich") to make it laughable to state: "NEWT! The Last Conservative Standing."

Newt has been called on to give account for many of his non-conservative stances, and he has given account. Newt HAS NOT gone around the country seeking to help Mitt Romney look conservative, despite what he knows to be his politics and past history. Two different questions.

You missed the whole context. Levin introduced this notional speech with the point that Romney has not and maybe cannot make the case for free markets, liberty, capitalism, and freedom. Perhaps he doesn't believe it, but either way he has not made the case effectively. And Levin said if he can't, he will lose. So he suggested Romney start talking like this and gave this little speech. Hardly pimping Romney, basically the opposite.

You know, I would agree with you IF Romney believed all those things, had advocated and voted for all those conservative touchstones, and was just a poor communicator, then I could see Rush, Levin, Hannity everybody, trying to help a true conservative present himself and his ideas and principles in a better, more compelling way. I would urge everyone to help a true inarticulate conservative every way they could.

Only this is not that. This is giving a person without any conservative principles, who himself has called himself a progressive, giving him conservative talking points, hot buttons, and appearance for the sake of appearance. Just like romney "taking on" the media at Breitbart. Lame attempt that fell flat and short. If it doesn't come from inside, it isn't real.

Your mayor got caught involved in illegal gun running in Virginia. If he ever comes here he has some real problems. Even the Democrat governor at the time warned him away.

First, as far as Sarah, I am disappointed, and you are right to some degree. But I just think true conservatives should work with each other, and jump in when so much is at stake, and I feel like she had and has the opportunity to really help Newt. Though someone who understands this stuff better than I, told me last night, that I was erroneously layering the team concept, which is so prevalent in the military, onto politicians, and you can't do that. They are creatures of ego and individualism. So you may have something there.

RE:.. "nor do you have the knowledge of what anybody else is doing in their own plan to stop the advance of progressivism whether implemented by Obama or Romney, to say what they are or aren’t doing is the same as voting for Obama."

Yeah, now that you are totally correct on. I just get carried away. It FEELS that way to me, even though that doesn't make it any more reasonable - and I know it! :)
