Zimmerman's rights were violated by charging him with second-degree murder. The prosecutor made the charges without going through a grand jury.

The Fifth Amendment states that "No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury..."

Surely being accused of murder and facing a possible penalty of life imprisonment makes this an "infamous" crime. (At least that's my opinion...but I'm not a lawyer.)

No violation here. Fifth amendment right to Grand Jury only applies to Federal Courts. Most states allow charges to be filed either by grand jury indictment or by the prosecutor filing a charging information.
