There are other places Martin could have walked to buy iced tea and candy (Walmart for example), but these are well out of alignment with the path Martin was using to come home.

Also, it was reportedly raining, so it is unlikely that he was taking the long way for exercise.

None of this is conclusive - only so much can be gleaned from goggle map. But it does make me wonder.
