A lot of people don't pay that much attention to what's going on around them. They hear a few propaganda sound bites and take them as gospel truth I think that can be said about democrats. I wouldn't exactly say the average Republican voter is too stupid to form their own opinions.

(Democrats vote themselves more of everyone elses money. That doesn't require any thought at all.)
