I also think he's too lazy to actually do the hard work.

He is lazy but perhaps destroying the country doesn't take much hard work. Incite a little racism here, leak a little secret of Israel there, and let Soros, Holder, et al take care of the rest, and you're golden. Didn't Reagan spend much of his time watching movies and letting his staff handle things? He still managed to take down the Soviet Union and invigorate the economy.

Your problem is that you underestimate Mitt Romney. He has a lot more conservative scalps hanging from his belt than BarryO does.

This is where we fundamentally disagree. Obama passed ObamaCare, is racking up a ridiculous debt for us, appointed Kagan and Sotomayor, and has been treasonous in his foreign policy dealings. Clearly, he has been worse for conservatives in America as a whole than Romney has been yet. If you argue that Romney was worse for Massachusetts than Obama has been for America, keep in mind that it's a lot easier to screw conservatives in Massachusetts than in it is from the White House.

The truly alarming thing is--how did we get to this point where we're stuck with such an atrocity for a Republican nominee?

It truly is alarming. Although America has moved much to the left, the Republican party still never became as left-wing as Romney. Conservatives never coalesced around one candidate, and we never fielded any great candidates to run against him anyways. At the end, we were running guys who have been out of office for six and twelve years. Perry was the only one who had the resume worthy of a president, and he tanked. The rest of our governors and senators must have been crap, although we do seem to have a good crop of younger politicians coming up. Most appallingly, though, was how the "conservative" media pushed him all the way. The conservative media's betrayal might be the worst of all.

Indeed. They showed in this election cycle that they are not conservative, but all media. There's not a one of them that I watch or listen to anymore. And I used to be a diehard.
