Sometime during the Nixon administration James Brown, then at the height of his popularity, agreed, to the screams of liberals, to participate in Nixon’s Stay in School program (I think it was called) aimed at the ghetto. Was he the perfect promoter of it? Later, when he himself got in trouble with the law, it turned out that he wasn’t, but that was later. Anyway, what effect did that campaign and many others since then have had? What’s Obama’s nickname now? Ah yes, Zero! What’s the goal of such folks as Whitney when they launch their careers? Shiny cars, parties, drugs, jewelry. Compare to someone like Mick Jagger, a man of wealth and taste now, fluent in French, art patron, film producer, who certainly had his share of drugs and parties. Leave the ghetto, but the ghetto never leaves you! Pity.
