Get out of here, I can show you the 1.2 mile tunnel that burned over 1/2 a BILLION DOLLARS that Santorum made sure got funded, just like countless other pork. You are crazy and naive if you think Rick is a fiscal conservative. Not saying Romney is, but Rick is and never been a fiscal conservative.

Who exactly asked for that money for the tunnel? Did Rick force it on you or did his constituents ask for it. You have a problem with tunnel? You should have taken corrective measures in your community by firing all the locals that lobbied for it. Pure nonsense blaming Rick for these project the people of PA asked for.

Maybe a limited govt' guy like yourself would rather have Federal Govt' agencies dole out cash to states to totally cut voters out of any say?

Lazlo, this is good news. A loss for Rick Santorum in Pennsylvania could be devastating to him, and not just in the current race.

Romney is not stupid. He realizes how close Santorum came to beating him in Michigan, and if that had happened, we today would have an entirely different race. Knocking a candidate out in his own home state, especially a candidate like Santorum who lost his last election there, is not a minor defeat.

Let's hope what happened in Wisconsin doesn't hurt Santorum too badly in Pennsylvania.

What. Are you a comedy writer? Why would Rick team up with a guy that no one wants to vote for? Huckabee won more states in '08 with far less money than Newt had. What in the world would make you think that Rick would need to team up with a guy that took a boat load of cash and was only able to manufacture a win in 2 states, one of which was his home state. That win in GA, BTW, didn't even break 50%.

Face it. The reason we are going to get stuck with Milt is strictly because of Newt being a spoiler. Election results are bearing it out as we speak.

I noticed that, too, including Tuesday night. They must be a very close family.

Too bad Mitt laid down the law to the Catholic Church in MA.

A “blue” state? Communists are Reds. Let’s not succumb to the imposed language of the left. The media was supposed to switch off election to election, but somehow stopped after Gore/Bush...

Same thing happened last century when classical liberals turned into conservatives (pro-monarchy, pro-status quo as opposed to liberty seeking) and left-wing fascists turned into liberals. Coincidence?

The guys not remotely what his backers think he is.

Santorum is an imperfect but acceptable alternative to the self described 'severely conservative' liberal Willard Romney - by far the better of two choices.

How am I deluding myself?

Still pushing that the guy that routinely comes in behind Paul in state Primary contests is going to have any influence at the Convention. Maybe you need a moment of clarity yourself.

Way to ignore the issue. Santorum’s PORK is monumental here in PA, voters voted down 2 stadiums and they still got built here. You are abjectly clueless about Santorums fiscal record. He brought the pork home just as good as Murtha when he was in office, you think otherwise you are either willfully ignoring reality, or flat out ignorant.

Claiming Santorum is a fiscal conservative, is like Claiming Obama is a constitutional scholar.

Santorum is a social conservative, and if you want to view him through that lense and that lense alone, then you can conclude he’d be better than Romney.. However if you look at his overall record, the guys record really isn’t all that different. You take social issues out of the mix and you have basically a guy does not believe in limited federal government and is on the record repeatedly saying so. Only difference is WHAT issues santorum feels the government should be overly involved in.

For his social causes he will use the force and power of government to be as intrusive as it can be... for things he doesn’t agree with, not so much.

You don’t have a huge ideological conservative in Santorum. What you do have is another “compassionate conservative” like Bush with “social conservative” leanings. If you want small government, Santorum ain’t gonna give it to you.

I am not defending Romney, he sucks.. Santorum’s a milk toast, Romney’s sucks... viewed under the context of limited government, there isn’t much differnce between the two.

And that’s not even getting into the electability issues Santorum has.

Basially the election boils down to a vote of confidence in Obama... And every poll out there say people want his lame arse gone. So any republican who doesn’t come across as an absolute monster will likely win. Its a shame that given that, we have a guy Santorum who is easily painted as one with his own soundbites, and a guy who can’t easily be painted as one, but will likely govern farther left that I would like. However both are better than the current occupant, but only one has any shot at electability, and it ain’t Santorum.

Personally I think Newt was the only candidate truly worthy of the Job, but that isn’t going to happen...so 4 more years of crap. Just a question of how much.

Can you show me where Santorum was behind pushing these projects? You can't. He simply went around to all the counties and asked the people there what they wanted and tried to get funding for it. Go sell your irrational babble to someone else. I am not buying it. If you feel so strongly about Rick, vote Romney. He seems to fit the bill perfectly for you.

You’ll see Rick do better in western Pa. and central up for grabs. But on the Eastern side Rick will not do well...Philadelphia and such, and these people don’t want Santorum at all. Romney will take the East....and the closer you get to Maryland the bluer the state gets....same with NY state.

PA will likely go Romney when the ads begin to flow.

Exactly right....Santorum is all about big government and "Pork"...not to mention he has no reservations it should be so. He expressly said he "likes" Earmarks and does not want to see them abolished.

I don't know why people who are sold on his social issues are choosing to be blind to his fiscal stance. Might be they are only hearing with the ear of "faith", as one poster mentioned, and leaving their intellect and reason on the back burner.

An interesting article by one who knows Santorum well...and does explain why Rick will have a problem in Pa:

“I’ve known Rick Santorum for 22 years, having first met him in 1990 before he’d won his first campaign for Congress. I interviewed him on WORD-FM, an evangelical Christian radio station where I was a frequent guest host (and eventually a full-time host) early in his campaign.

If I was not the first media personality to interview Rick, I was one of the first.

I haven’t written any articles about Santorum’s presidential bid, until now. He was no longer my business. And I resisted the urge this election season to tell fellow Republicans around the United States about Rick, because I figured they would find out soon enough.

And then Rick made himself my business.

“Rick makes things up.” The more I thought about it, the more clear it was to me that Santorum’s main problem (and there are many) is as simple as that:..... he does not tell the truth. He makes things up as he goes along, assuming no one will check. ...When the people of Pennsylvania figured that out, they were done with him and fired him as their Senator, and Rick even lied about that.

Lazlo, So, If you talk to a local politician or beaurocrat and he asks you for $$ for a project, and you give it to him, that's ok.. just give it to him? Um.. NO.. that's the very DEFINITION of PORK my friend and your attempt to spin Santorum as a fiscal conservative is LAUGHABLE. Santorum funded thousands of pork projects over his years in the Senate and didn't attempt to reign in spending at all. You attempting to alledge he is a fiscal conservative is patently foolish.

Here you go, Santorum's back door deal to ensure the North Shore Connector got funded in exchange for support:

'We had a deal with Santorum,’ said Mr. Brooks, whose Greater Pennsylvania Regional Council of Carpenters, along with other major building and construction trade unions, endorsed Mr. Santorum after the senator went to bat in Washington for construction of the tunnel under the Allegheny River. The tunnel’s only stop is at the two taxpayer-funded sports stadiums built with Mr. Santorum’s support. ‘Very seldom are you going to have a union endorse a Republican,’ said Mr. Brooks. ‘But the project created 4,000 jobs’ — even if they were temporary — for workers in the construction and building trades

So you can take your idiotic patently false characterization of Santorums pork spending and have fun seeing how well a supository it makes.

The guys no fiscal conservative, and hes not remotely the squeaky clean guy he plays on TV.
