Even Paul warned that Christians should not get too full of themselves, and think that they were replacing G_d’s chosen people. He warns that we are like grafted in branches, not the root, and can easily be replaced. I believe you are seeing this in the large liberal "churches" that deny G_d's word and steal G_d's promises to the Jewish people and Israel form themselves. They are dying on the vine.
God's Word will be fulfilled and David (Yeshua) will rule from Zion. All nations will be gathered for a sign when they attack Jerusalem. Some of those who survive will serve the G_d of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob(see the last chapter of Isaiah.

As a Christian, we have trusted the Jewish folks to preserve and cherish the religious sites and items that are dear to both Christianity and Judism, and they have done an outstanding job as far as I can tell.
I see no reason to change the current arrangement, for to do so would mean certain destruction of all the relics and sites we Christians hold dear.
