Gingrich 'at the end of his line,' major donor says

Casino titan Sheldon Adelson, who has almost single-handedly bankrolled a "super PAC" backing Newt Gingrich's presidential campaign, now believes Gingrich is "at the end of his line."....

Speaking to a group outside his Las Vegas hotel and casino, The Venetian, Adelson earlier this week criticized GOP front-runner Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum, but acknowledged that his preferred candidate has little hope of becoming the nominee....

'Cause, I mean, mathematically, he can't get anywhere near the numbers, and there's not - unlikely there'll be a brokered convention."

Adelson, along with his wife and children, has donated $16.5 million to Winning Our Future, a super PAC that was instrumental in paying for advertising to boost Gingrich's cash-strapped campaign....

Adelson was speaking informally while attending the Jewish Federations of North America's TribeFest, which was hosted at The Venetian.

He criticized Santorum, a former senator from Pennsylvania, for being too focused on social issues. Adelson described himself as a "social liberal" who is pro-choice on abortion.

"I know Rick; I like him," Adelson said. "We're friendly. But I got to tell you something: I don't want him to run my country."

Turning to Romney, Adelson sounded frustrated by the former Massachusetts governor's unwillingness to commit to his causes.

"He's not the bold decision-maker like Newt Gingrich is," Adelson said. "He doesn't want to - every time I talk to him, he says, 'Well, let me think about it.' "

Adelson said he had talked to both Romney and Gingrich about agreeing to choose the other as a vice presidential nominee. Gingrich, he said, rebuffed the idea because it would make it harder to gain much-needed support from governors in other states.

"Newt says, 'Listen....

No time to go wobbly, Uncle Shel. Pls, just send money. Newt will decide when it's the end of the line.

I'm in, til Newt's out.

Unfortunately, Newt’s been out for a while. As stated in another thread, Mittens is this cycle’s McCain. That is, chosen to lose.

Unless there is a brokered convention I don’t see much hope for the Newtster.

With Newt’s moves today, he is all but out. Shame as, with Fred Thompson before Newt was and is the only candidate I sent money to. Many complain about the GOP-E, but the truth is, unfortunately nearly half the rank and file are not really conservatives. CINO’s Conservative In Name Only!

FYI, Santorum has a higher lifetime ACU rating than Thompson.

I just can’t get it out of my mind the way Rush Limbaugh helped Romney defeat Gingrich.

(Which will be irrelevant if Newt can still stop Romney)

Ditto- Rush has been in the bag for Romney/Bain/Clear Channel from Day One. The Rush Robots hate hearing that— but it’s the truth.

Don’t doubt me on this.

That’s right red— he should send some bucks. And while he’s at it, how about some “comps” for me and you?

I won’t.

And I have a feeling this forum and others will provide an opportunity to post reminders of this fact, for some time to come.

I bought some Newtgallons a couple of weeks ago. I’ll likely buy some more in a few days. :-)

“Unfortunately, Newt’s been out for a while.”

Bloody Thursday killed him. Coulter, Drudge, et al.

He never recovered after that.

So why the herculean effort every day by Rush to keep Santorum afloat? Without the “Rush stamp of approval” and his literal HOURS of explaining Santorum’s verbal ramblings, the Senator would have faded away months ago, I believe.

If Rush was actually for Mitt, why so much assistance to Santorum?

Another question from Juan Williams... or King. That’s all!

Seriously, the GOP electorate is that volatile (malleable),
that Newt jump 30 points in SC in 2-3 days, based only on 2 questions. Newt knows that, and that’s why he’s hanging in.

He’s got until the convention— something will happen.

Same for Levin. Both crucified Newt over his Bain criticism. Problem is Newt was correct about Bain’ business model under Romney.

"Newt says, 'Listen, I would do that except that every governor whose help you need to go through the election is hoping he'll be the vice president pick. So if I go into the contest with a vice president already picked, they're not going to help me.' "

This statement smells like BS and I think Newt is smarter than that. Other than Sarah Palin's surprise pick by McCain, when is the last time a sitting governor was willing to trade a real office for a run for the vice presidency? Sarah got away with it only because she was exceptional and Alaska was a small state willing to put up with a three month absence while the governor sought higher office.
