A three-page police report published online Tuesday by the Chicago Tribune contains new details about the shooting death of Sanford, Fla. teenager Trayvon Martin. It discloses that George Zimmerman, who shot Martin on Feb. 26, was in custody on the scene and told police that he had tried, in vain, to find someone to help him with his own injuries.

It also describes Zimmerman as “in custody” when Officer Ayala arrived on the scene. “Upon arrival Ofc. T. Smith had a white male, later identified as George Zimmerman, in custody,” Ayala wrote.

Officer Timothy Smith, in his written report, notes that “Zimmerman complied with all my commands and was secured in handcuffs.”

“Zimmerman was placed in the rear of my police vehicle and was given first aid. … I overheard him state ‘I was yelling for someone to help me, but no one would help me.’ … Once Zimmerman was cleared by the [Sanford Fire Department], he was transported to the Sanford Police Department.”

“Zimmerman was placed in an interview room at [Sanford Police Department], where he was interviewed by Investigator D. Singleton.”

The report also notes that officers on the scene administered CPR to Martin, but that fire department rescuers later confirmed his death.

Officer Ayala described Zimmerman’s alleged crime as a violation of Florida statute 782.11, titled “Unnecessary killing to prevent unlawful act.”

“Whoever shall unnecessarily kill another, either while resisting an attempt by such other person to commit any felony, or to do any other unlawful act, or after such attempt shall have failed, shall be deemed guilty of manslaughter, a felony of the second degree,” the law reads.

You still can’t shoot someone breaking into your car. Not in Florida, anyway.

Texas still allows the use of deadly force to protect property "... when the individual reasonably believes that deadly force is immediately necessary to stop the other individual's unlawful actions..."

When this does get ugly for the left, I would hope the MSM is held responsible right along with the politicians, Jackson, et al. Without their slanted reporting a lot of this wouldn’t have happened. Poor Zimmerman, I wish people with signs would hit the streets and protest places like CNN about the pain and suffering they have caused him and his family, and our law abiding citizens. Protests around the white house against O stirring things up would be awesome!

Lots of places lump “Hispanic” under “white”.in certain cases so does the DOJ.

It sounds to me like the attacked person must snivel, whimper, and grovel to the attacker, stand by and just watch a capital crime in commission, be charged with illegal activity (in this case, defending oneself).

This had to have been written by a coward. Just reading it disgusts me.

Zimmerman was observing Martin. That is not illegal and is not threatening. I’ve read that Zimmerman said he was returning to his truck when he was attacked by Martin. If that’s the case the “stand your ground” law DOES apply.

Plus, the tape shows he said “Okay” when told he didn’t need to follow Martin. I think I can assume he stopped.

Since a gun shot was involved was an autopsy performed? If so were blood or drug test taken? Would this material be made public?

On February 26th, the night Martin was killed, police questioned Zimmerman for five hours at police headquarters. The police report noted Zimmerman was “bleeding from the nose and the back of the head.”

Police did not administer a drug and alcohol test or an immediate background check on Zimmerman, although they did both on Martin.

The next day, detectives re-enacted the shooting with Zimmerman at the scene. They also discovered Zimmerman had two prior arrests: one for assaulting a cop, the other for domestic abuse.

For the next two weeks, lead investigator Chris Serino pursued a manslaughter charge against Zimmerman.

Police interviewed at least six witnesses. But none of them saw how the confrontation began or the shooting that ended it.

Witnesses told 911 operators that they heard cries for help. The police report corroborates the witnesses’ reports, with GZ saying that he called out for help but no one came.

His back was wet and covered with grass, “as if he had been laying on the ground on his back.” Also noted is bleeding from his nose and back of his head.

What we don’t know are the results of TM’s autopsy and forensic evidence.
