When you’re in charge of a cafe. with 725 students with 2 teachers and 3 schoolaids, any potential for a failure of discipline is important and must be dealt with serioulsly. Your detention idea would have merit,except for the last 30 years in NYC detention has been considered corporal punishment and only done with weitten parental permission, not simple parental notification.

Detention is corporal punishment? What a joke. That is a failure of the administration, plain and simple.

I recall that my friends and I, once received a school detention for singing happy birthday to one of the girls at our table from some little twerp of a teacher that that was known as “tinker bell”. We were not loud or disruptive and singing happy birthday was a common occurrence. We weren’t even the group that nicknamed the teacher, “tinker bell”.
