I read he was on a 5 day suspension from his school when the incident occurred. Not sure why he was suspended.

That time of night? It was six-thirty in the evening.
In that neighborhood? He was visiting his father and his father's girlfriend who lived in the complex.
Skittles? Yeah -- skittles.
Is Mr. K some code word for asshat?
7pm at night. Yeah, what was he thinking?
He was on suspension from school for 5 days...which is why he was near Orlando, instead of the Miami area, where he typically lived.
To my knowledge, nobody has released any information as to why he was on suspension.
