The Congressional Black Caucus wants the Justice Department to investigate the shooting death of a 17-year-old, unarmed black Florida high school student as a potential hate crime.
“This case compromises the integrity of our legal system and sets a horrific precedent of vigilante justice,” Congressional Black Caucus Chair Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) said in a statement. “Members of the Congressional Black Caucus stand together in the name of justice for Trayvon. As a nation we cannot, should not, and will not ignore, Trayvon’s brutal murder and the inconceivable fact that his killer remains free. Contrary to the flippant way this case has been handled, his life had meaning and purpose. Trayvon had a family, friends and a future all taken away because of the color of his skin

At this point, your posts on the Martin/Zimmerman matter generally aren't worth the effort to respond. Your 'known facts' aren't facts and you leave out anything that doesn't support your conclusion. For example, as for 'known facts," there's a Police Report that states the back of Zimmerman's shirt was wet; that there was grass on the back of his clothing; and that he was bleeding from the back of his head and nose. Those are known facts, but you skipped those.
In addition - even if there were no self-protection defense available to Zimmerman - you left out something important. You failed to state a single legal element that would lift a shooting, any shooting, from manslaughter to murder, yet you use the term 'murder.'
The most disappointing part is that they’re recycling the same garbage they were trying to sell a few weeks ago. Nothing new material.

Does classifying an incident as a “hate crime” allow the feds to start interfering in what would normally be a state crime? I was under the impression that was the motivation behind calling something a hate crime, but was curious if that is the actual legal effect?

He most certainly was detained and taken to the SPD and interrogated for quite some time. There were a number of officers involved in an investigation of the incident.

Apparently FL law is that if someone asks you what you are doing you can jump on him and beat him senseless and he can't fight back in any way.
It might be worth a few bucks to put the police in a position where they'll be afraid to come near you unless you have a bloody axe in your hand and a body under your feet.

As a 12 year freeper, it seems that you should have known to only deal in facts. Listening to the MSM is for the folks over at DU. I didn’t realize that it was a stale thread, but do you realize how foolish you look now?
I do agree with you that we will never know exactly what happened when George and Trayvon came face to face, but the available evidence seems to point to Trayvon throwing the first punch. Perhaps more will come out, perhaps not; but you don’t convict someone unless you have proof.
