I don't think that it's necessarily a bad idea - I figured out most of that sort of thing for myself, but I also grew up in a household where you just *had* a bank account, and a checking account, and a job, and so on. It was simply expected, the only discussion might have been "Hey Dad, what do they mean by *this* question on this form?".

I certainly can see where some - particularly those with no good role models to go to for help - would need a hand with stuff like that.

However, (in this case) the school's choice of teacher - easily one of the more irresponsible people I know, teaching kids how to be responsible - strikes me as unintentional academic irony at its finest.
