Gingrich first to hit Obama for Afghanistan apology
CNN Politics ^ | 2/23/12 | Kevin Liptak

Posted on 02/23/2012 3:15:06 PM PST by Lakeshark

Newt Gingrich emerged Thursday as the first Republican White House hopeful to criticize President Barack Obama for apologizing after Muslim holy books containing extremist language were burned by NATO soldiers.

Gingrich told a crowd in Spokane, Washington, "President Obama surrendered twice today and I think that deserves to be brought to the country's attention."
**snip**
He continued, "The president apologized for the burning, but I haven't seen the president demand that the government of Afghanistan apologize for the killing of two young Americans."

Gingrich said Obama was ignoring the treat of radical Muslims intent on harming Americans.

"There seems to be nothing that radical Islamists can do to get Barack Obama's attention in a negative way, and he is consistently apologizing to people who do not deserve the apology of the president of the United States, period," Gingrich said.

“Palin didn’t handle it at all. She jumped on the pop-celebrity wagon. That was my point”

She still ran for VP under the pressure she was receiving. Remember this started 4 years ago with her. I didn’t see Cain’s or Gingrich’s children lied about. I didn’t see the paternity of their children brought into question. The assault of Sarah’s family is the dirtiest politics I have ever seen. I think people tend to forget the viciousness of the attacks on the Palin family.

Cain did not continue his bid for the Presidency when he was attacked.

None of us know her motivations for doing what she did. She has her reasons. It really doesn’t matter. She counted the cost and it wasn’t worth it for whatever reasons. It doesn’t mean she isn’t doing anything for conservatism and for us to think that our efforts are superior to hers is hubris (if that is what you think).

I do not like her pop-celebrity stuff. I think it lends cred to all the arguments against her as VP.

Again thank you for a reasoned discussion.

I just reread this and I think you may have misunderstood what I meant.

I wouldn’t criticize Palin for not running for President because I could not begin to comprehend what her family has been through. IOW, I can understand why she wouldn’t want to put her family through that again.

It’s real simple.

I think you and I both were happy to see her ascend to the national scene at the time.

I think we both agree that the MSM has been especially hard on her.

From there and around about 2009 we begin to disagree.

You still find her a sympathetic character.

I don’t.

The key disconnect here is that you seem to believe that she made a rational choice in the face of public attacks, to protect her family and personal life.

That’s not consistent with the FACT that, hello, SHE’S STILL OUT GABBING IN PUBLIC, ON TV, ON FACEBOOK, ON TWITTER, ON BOOK TOURS, ON RUBBER CHICKEN SPEECH CIRCUITS. She’s still exposing her family!

In other words, she’s out milking the conservative cow while Newt and others are out there fighting the enemy.

You're whining about personal attacks?

Let's cut to the chase:

In your post 124 you stated:

"And exactly what are the two of you doing? Sitting on the sidelines criticizing?

At least Sarah Palin is speaking out. You have no idea what her family was put through and how much it cost them. Neither do I by the way. Obviously, she counted the cost and didn’t think she could pay it.

If you are so concerned about it, how about you run for President."

THAT alone turned the exchange 'personal'. You first made the assumption (hence proven wrong) that Sam and I were 'on the sidelines', then you made the childish suggestion that we 'run for President', as if ANY person could just jump right up on any given day, and fire up a presidential campaign.

The fact is, you couldn't handle anyone saying less than complimentary and praising words for Sarah Palin, and YOU responded with a personal attack, and you reaped what you sowed.

You need to lick your wounds now, and move on.

Onyx, are you saying that Sarah Palin is IMMUNE to criticism on this forum?

Sam Paine made legitimate observations regarding her past and present activity, and I agree with him. I agree with MANY of the things that Sarah Palin has said and done, however she is not perfect, she is not flawless. There is only one Man who ever walked the Earth that was perfect, and I think we all know who Jesus Christ is, and He alone is immune to criticism as I see it.

Now the facts of the matter are that Sarah Palin had an opportunity to enter this presidential race, and who among us doubt that she could have immediately achieved front runner status? She probably would have run Romney out of the race before Florida, and the entire campaign would look vastly different than it does now.

Nice comment by JR.

What I find fascinating is two people hijacking a thread about Newt Gingrich to diss Sarah Palin, and they just keep on prattling like old wives (apologies to old wives).

Did you see that Bambi doubled down on his apologies today? Maybe we can send them some Solyndra money and they'll stop rioting........

‘I think you and I both were happy to see her ascend to the national scene at the time.’

I have kept very quiet on this matter over the last four years. Now I am outing myself so I hope you are happy. :) The truth is that I am pretty old fashioned and I don’t want a female President and therefore didn’t want a female VP. I like her ideas and the fact that she is conservative and I didn’t find anything to dislike about her personally. I also voted for her. Of course, I would rather have a conservative female President than a liberal President. So I like her but was not thrived with the prospect. I hope all that makes sense.

She is still speaking out in the areas that you said but her family is not being scrutinized the way it was when she was running for VP. Of course, she left office as Governor after the election partly because of all the bogus ethics charges (Newt did the same as Speaker).

The smear campaign that you saw against her as VP would look like a love fest compared to what would happen if she were to run for President.

It isn’t sympathy for her as much as it is understanding. I think she is doing what she can for the country(like any of us) while still balancing that with the needs of her family.

So well said. I also feel the same way about Sarah. I like her very much but glad she is not running for VP or President. Perhaps Newt would ask her to serve as Sec of Energy. Sarah certainly would serve America well in that position!

I also had fun thinking about Sarah as Press Secretary! That would drive the Liberal Media nuts and certainly would make every Press Conference worth watching!!

Why are you linking to an AP story that takes Sarah quotes in snippets and doesn’t show the emails in full text? The AP, Huffington Post and others are trying to control what people read or see as far as regarding Sarah

Use your good judgment. Why attack Sarah Palin or even criticize her?

'Shark my old friend, nobody hijacked anything. And I pose the question to you as well: "is Sarah Palin immune to criticism on this forum?"

The issue that came up was that while Sarah did indeed demand an apology from Karzai, that was a risk-free and pain-free demand to make, Newt Gingrich is in the middle of a presidential run but did not hesitate to raise this as a campaign issue, at substantially great political risk. And I think Sam Paine's comments were relevant and well thought out, don't you? It would behoove you to consider discussing the issue that was raised, instead of making personal attacks on other posters referring to them as 'old wives', you know, debate the message instead of shooting the messenger?

” he (Obama) supported infanticide should be a bumper sticker”

That’s about the only way Hussein’s followers will ever know that Obama voted to have doctors kill babies. We can be sure the MSM won’t report it — ‘cause they never have. In the ‘08 campaign, reporters knew it but the media hit it. We knew it.

Those chosing this bumper sticker should be sure to bump up their insurance coverage. Plan on damage at the hands of Hussein’s drooling supporters.

My good judgment says that I must be a conservative, not a rubber stamp. It isn't about attacking Sarah Palin, it is about discernment with a critical eye. As I said, I support many of the things Sarah has said and done. The key word being 'many' not all. I will support her when she's right, and on those occasions she is wrong, I will not hesitate to criticize. She would herself encourage Americans to exercise their freedom of speech to act in just such a manner, do you not agree?

The bumper sticker should read:

Obama, the guy who made Communism and Infanticide Cool.

The Libs will think it's a compliment.
