President Barack Obama on Thursday assailed Republicans for what he described as a flawed and dishonest strategy for reducing gas prices, predicting his rivals would offer nothing but more drilling and political promises of $2-a-gallon gas. Said the president: "The American people aren't stupid."
"That's not a plan, especially since we're already drilling. That's a bumper sticker," Obama said in a stop at the University of Miami. "It's not a strategy to solve our energy challenge. That's a strategy to get politicians through an election. You know there are no quick fixes to this problem."
Obama spoke as gas has reached the highest price at the pump ever for this time of year: an average of $3.58 per gallon. White House advisers see it as a cyclical occurrence but knew Obama had to address the topic, one of deep concern to consumers and growing fodder for Republicans seeking to unseat Obama.
Obama said gas prices were "like a tax straight out of their paychecks." He promoted an energy agenda of oil, gas, wind, solar, nuclear and biofuel energy. And he took aim at Republicans.
"You can bet that since it's an election year, they're already dusting off their three-point plans for $2 gas. I'll save you the suspense: Step one is to drill, step two is to drill, and step three is to keep drilling. ... We've heard the same thing for thirty years. Well, the American people aren't stupid."
Obama insisted there are no short-term solutions to high gas prices, and that anyone suggesting otherwise was not being honest. Still, he sought to offer something to anxious voters by saying he had ordered his administration to search for every possible area to help consumers in the coming months.

But he knows the fix is in. The GOP will throw the election as soon as they destroy the last conservative. The Just-Us Dept will ignore voter fraud. Obama will make a vague promise to “help the middle class” with rising fuel prices and the minorities and media will rally around his red banner.
And my brother-in-law, who puts in one eight-hour shift per week as a bartender, is already working.

You remember that quip Obama gave us that under his policies, energy prices “would necessarily skyrocket“?
Remember that Obama appointed an energy secretary named Steven Chu who said, “Somehow we have to figure out how to boost the price of gasoline to the levels in Europe”??? With gasoline prices in Europe consistently hovering between $7 and $10 a gallon??? Steven Chu said that in explaining the Obama policy of “progressively” making gasoline more and more expensive in order to force Americans to turn to alternative energy sources.

I think the obama is right, this country does need a comprehensive energy plan, which it has not had in decades, but right now we need energy costs as low as possible and that means increasing supply AND reigning in gov spending.

The good news I heard on the local radio after His Escellency’s speech today at UM was some student saying: the green thing sounds good but I am concerned about putting gas in my car TODAY.
Could the worm finally beginning to turn. IMO, hit people in the pocketbook enough and they eventually see the picture. Of course, His Excellency will probably propose some kind of program for the “poor” to get credits for their gasoline expenses.
We tried his “Green Energy” plan and it is an EPIC FAIL!

In another clip from the same January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in which Barack Obama promised to bankrupt anyone foolish enough to build coal-burning power plants, he also made an interesting admission about his entire energy plan. Obama told the editors that his policies would make energy prices “skyrocket” as the energy industry passed along the exorbitant costs of his cap-and-trade [plan].
