Feds sue anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan over back taxes

SACRAMENTO, CA (KXTV) - The federal government has filed a lawsuit to force anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan to provide her financial records to the Internal Revenue Service.

An IRS revenue officer said Sheehan refused to answer any questions about her finances after receiving a summons at her Vacaville home.

The U.S. Attorney's office on Tuesday filed a petition to enforce the IRS summons.

The summons ordered Sheehan to produce bank account statements for the period from August through early November 2011.

According to IRS revenue officer Jose Arteaga, the financial information may be relevant to the collection of Sheehan's federal income tax liabilities for tax years 2005 and 2006.

Arteaga said Sheehan first met with him on Nov. 22 and sought an extension to Jan. 17. It was during the January meeting that she refused to answer any questions or produce the requested documents.

Sheehan said she's always been up front with the IRS and has no intention of paying her taxes. She says the government has already taken enough from her.

"If they (federal government), can give me my son back, I'll pay my taxes, but that's not going to happen," Sheehan said.

Sheehan became an anti-war activist after her son, U.S. Army Specialist Casey Sheehan, was killed in Iraq. She attracted national attention after setting up a camp in 2005 near President George W. Bush's ranch in Texas.

More recently, Sheehan has been involved in the Occupy movement and was arrested during an October demonstration in Sacramento.

The IRS lists Sheehan as self-employed. She was not immediately available for comment on the tax lawsuit.

The story of formerly useful idiot Cindy Sheehan is truly a sad one, indeed.

And the Klown Pinko lesbos who turned her, are nowhere to found now. She became an ENEMY OF THE SOCIALIST STATE AND MEDIA the day she turned on Hillary Clinton.

As I recall mama Sheehan and her son were not on the same wavelength as to his participation in the war. Mama just used the death of her son to twist it to something he wouldn’t favor. She aligned herself with anti USAers using her son as her foot in the door.

I think they had to do the same thing to Chomsky when he withheld taxes in protest of the Vietnam War. Not sure they ever had to sue him ... I think they eventually just seized his paychecks to pay the taxes.

“The downside to being a useful idiot is that one day you will no longer be useful.”

The story of Cindy Sheehan should be taught as a cautionary tale to school children.

The California Franchise Tax Board probably put liens on her assets first. The CFTB makes the IRS look like Mother Theresa in comparison. I love it when liberals find out what big government is all about.

Right after Rachel Corrie, who didn’t even get to enjoy her 15 minutes of fame.

As much as I'm not eager to help this woman, the question "What about her 5th Amendment right to refuse to incriminate herself?" comes to mind.

If I had to choose who I disliked the most of these two....the IRS will win that one hands down.

If we threw her son’s body unto her front lawn, would she consider that an acceptable compromise?

The feds should do to her what they do to everybody, who doesn’t pay taxes, take her house and everything she owns. Garnish her wages until the bill is paid.

Her reasoning for not paying her income taxes is her business but she could be on to something. I like the idea of defunding this corrupt federal government. It’s the government that has made the dollar almost worthless so they sink the working man with an unsustainable tax burden so it, the government, can stay afloat. At least Sheehan is standing up to them, she should be the norm.

“As much as I’m not eager to help this woman, the question “What about her 5th Amendment right to refuse to incriminate herself?” comes to mind.”

If they have evidence that she Legally owes taxes, then they need to present it...

Henry Bellmon, Taxation quotes:
In a recent conversation with an official at the Internal Revenue Service, I was amazed when he told me that ‘If the taxpayers of this country ever discover that the IRS operates on 90% bluff the entire system will collapse’ .

Justice Hugo L. Black, Taxation quotes:
The United States has a system of taxation by confession.

Keith Bradsher, Taxation quotes:
In a small Swiss city sits an international organization so obscure and secretive....Control of the institution, the Bank for International Settlements, lies with some of the world’s most powerful and least visible men: the heads of 32 central banks, officials able to shift billions of dollars and alter the course of economies at the stroke of a pen.

Mortimer Caplin, Taxation quotes:
Our tax system is based on individual self-assessment and voluntary compliance.

Smart woman. Never ever respond directly to the IRS. Always have your CPA deal with them. Most people do not know that legally the IRS cannot compel you come before them or speak with them as long as you send your agent.

At least Sheehan is standing up to them, she should be the norm.

Unfortunately Sheehan is refusing to pay her tax bills because she doesn't like the federal govt. performing one of its few constitutional roles: national defense. This loon even objected to the use of the military to provide relief for New Orleans in the immediate aftermath of Katrina, that's how unhinged she is. This is just another anti-war tirade by a deranged woman. It's not for the reasons you or I might approve of, to make a statement about the size, scope and waste of federal spending and taxation. I can't get behind someone who deadbeats on taxes because she objects to the military protecting us, one of the few good uses of our tax dollars that goes on.
