Hold your horses folks.
1. Wrangell Island has never been claimed by the United States, although it was once claimed by Canada. It has been continuously occupied by Russia since 1924.
2. Bennett Island, Jeannette Island and Henrietta Island are part of the DeLong archipelago -- discovered by American explorers, yes, but off the Northern coast of Siberia and nowhere remotely near the United States. They have never been claimed by America, never been settled by Americans and have been actively claimed by Russia for the last century.
after looking at that map I’m surprised that Canada had the kahones to make such a claim
You are correct.
Better still, I would have said: “Take those islands but only if you also take Califonia with you...or there is no deal.”
