oposed strip club to nuns: Don’t impose your religious beliefs on us
Chicago Sun-Times ^ | February 12, 2012 | Stefano Esposito

The owner of a soon-to-be-built strip club in the western suburb of Stone Park has this to say to a group of neighboring nuns who don’t like his plans: Mind your own business.

“As a legal, tax-paying citizen of this community, we ask only to be judged fairly by what we have done and not through the recent religious fervor,” Bob Itzkow, the club’s owner, said in statement released Friday. “In reference to our non-tax-paying neighbors, we ask that you treat us as we have treated you, by not trying to unduly disturb us by imposing your religious beliefs on us or others. All throughout our plans for this project, we’ve followed the letter and spirit of the law.”

The Missionary Sisters of Saint Charles Borromeo, who occupy the property next to the club, have moral objections to the project and have raised questions about whether the rules were followed properly by Stone Park officials during the 2010 approval process.

Stone Park Mayor Beniamino Mazulla has said everything was done legally, even though he’s not personally a big fan of the project.

On Friday, one of the nuns, Sister Marissonia Daltoe, responded to Itzkow’s statement this way: “To me personally, this is not a matter of imposing religious beliefs — it’s a matter of defending our moral Christian principles of the community at large.”

Daltoe said the sisters are currently “in a moment of reflection” regarding any future efforts to fight the club.

“We are thinking,” she said. “We are seeing what can be done."

Title should read:

"Proposed strip club to nuns: Don’t impose your religious beliefs on us".

The strip club is looking for free publicity at the expense of the nuns. I suspect that, in a few years, the strip club will be bankrupt, like most other new clubs. The nuns will soldier on.

The nuns should just put up a web-cam, aimed at the club’s door, and post the feed on their website. A few patrons might be willing to be seen coming and going from such an establishment, but the majority will stay away.

They could also capture the License Plates of all the cars entering the lot, and post them as well.

Sunlight is the best disinfectant.

The Nuns are a day late and a dollar short on this.

The time to oppose this was back when the permits were applied for.

Now the building is up the guy has his permits and they are stuck. The Mayor and the permit office and the zoning commission should have given this some thought before the permits were issued.

I think you are probably correct in this prediction.
However, if this club has met the legal requirements I think they have the right to operate their business.

The nuns should just set up security cameras - pointing out towards the club and stream video of the parking lot of the club 24/7. Suggestions for their web site name are welcome!

Might limit the strip club clientele’s interest in visiting ... ;-)

I wonder what they’d have to say if it were a Mosque that had objections...

...with much thanks to our Catholic bashing money printer.

Outstanding suggestion.

The nuns should witness to the strippers.

They may get a few saved souls.

The nuns should erect a large cross on their property line next to the club. I’ll be the mayor could find an ordinance to have them remove it. If not, perhaps it would be a good witness.

“Missionary Sister of St. Charl, Melrose Park, illinois”

Missionary? One would think that a strip club would provide a wealth of sinners from which to harvest. Perhaps they need to think that their glass is half full.

You can take your “moral Christian principles” and shove them up your habit sister.

Now the building is up the guy has his permits and they are stuck.

It looks to me like they are looking to re-purpose an existing industrial building. I suspect this is just a little bit of cheap self-promotion at the expense of the nuns. Anything the nuns want to do fight back is fair game, IMHO.

A simple dummy camera on the corner of the property, with a sign visible from the street saying "Look for our future security camera feed at www.Where-Is-Your-Husband.com" should suffice...

I think the future owner of the proposed strip club (or for that matter, any business that runs afoul of any religion's creed), should read up on history. Religions have made a life out of actively opposing those who do not "toe the line" with respect to the religion's creed.

Back in the day it was, "believe as we do, or die!" Now it's "believe as we do, or we'll break you financially, and disgrace you in the community in which you've chosen to live and work!" Not death, to be sure, but not too far from it.

IMHO: I demand, "RAPTURE NOW"!

This guy should not impose the avarice and crime that goes along with his kind of business on nuns.

However, he is following the law. This must be a town that does not have laws as to how far a strip or alcohol bar can be build in proximity to schools and churches?

Sister Carol Keehan, President of the US Catholic Health Association, is why we have Obamacare.

Sister Carol Keehan, President of the Catholic Health Association, has been awarded with one of the 21 pens used by President Barack Obama on Tuesday to sign the health care bill.

Sister Keehan, who strongly supported the controversial health care bill despite the opposition of the U.S. bishops, was joined in receiving presidential pens by some of the most strongly pro-abortion members of the Congress: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid; Senator Dick Durbin, majority whip; Max Baucus, chairman of the Finance Committee; Senators Tom Harkin and Christopher Dodd; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Majority Leader Steny Hoyer; James Clyburn, majority whip; George Miller, chairman of the Education committee; Henry Waxman, chairman of Energy and Commerce; Sander Levin, chairman of the Ways and Means Committee; John Dingell and Charles Rangel, former chairman of the Ways and Means Committee.
