"cites tough China position"

Huh?

Wasn't Bain Capital partnered with Chinese-owned Huawei Technologies in a buy-out bid of communications gear mfg. 3Com?

Doesn't exactly sound tough on the Chinese to me.

I'm not sure that Romney has that much power.

Does Trump's endorsement, no matter who it is, really matter? is there anyone voting based on what he says?

At risk of sounding like a tin-foil wacko, it’s an even bet that the GOP-E does NOT want to win this election. They are either (1) happy with Obammunism (2) unwilling to tackle this economy that they think will continue tanking, so why get the blame, (3) uninterested in stopping the socialist slide, or (4) All of the above.

I don’t think Trump would have been more than a flash in the pan if he had gotten into the race - people would have been amused, but that would have been it - and he realized this. He cited Romney’s electability but I think he’s reading the Wall Street Journal script...even if you look at the GOP primaries so far, nothing gives the impression that Romney would get more voters, because his numbers simply haven’t changed, even $20 million later. Nobody really wants Romney, and if it weren’t for the fact that Romney can pay for his campaign staff out of his own pocket, he probably wouldn’t have any campaign staff.

Trump will attract a few people because he’s flaky and likeable, and Romney is seriously lacking on the likeability quotient.

Romney appeals mostly to elderly ladies who think he’s such a nice young man and reminds them of the Mormon missionary who came to their door and just wore the nicest white shirt...the fact that he had that nutty look in his eye and couldn’t give a straight answer to a single question is lost on people like her, unfortunately.

The Donald wanted to have a one-time “wealth tax” to put the federal purse in clover. Something like 30%. Why are so many billionaires left wing? Goodness of their hearts? Ha!

I think it's all internal. The GOP establishment wants to marginalize the 30-35% of the party that is demanding real changes. I believe the goal is to be so moderate/liberal that they gain the middle and left of center. If they can do this they don't need the right.

In retrospect it looks like this started almost immediately after the 2010 elections when they began down playing the role obamacare had and said it was all about financial concerns. We will see how this plays out. I know my wife and I are starting to believe we don't have a party to represent us, exactly what the Rats want.

I think the winner in all this is Obama’s team, they must love how we’re being whipsawed.

Take a look at the (some consistent/some not) bashing back and forth here between just a few hours on the “endorsing Newt” thread.

Some ITYS’s form some posters, some very consistent. Anyway, it’s interesting to see what “they” can do to us.

Trump has one HUGE strength. He can shut the media up. And put them on his side because they are terrified of him. BIG HUGE advantage. And also I think he works with Sarah - he loves her and she likes him. These 2 are on to something.

Trumps..(and Trumpett’s like Bondi) are all lining up for their pay offs and kickbacks in business...(and government positions).

“The problem with Donald has always been that he doesn’t have a solid set of core values”

Then it’s only right that he endorsed Willard the liberal, who also has no core set of values.

As the world knows, Trump is a very successful businessman. Remember Mitt turned down that debate w/Trump as moderator for a reason. Mitt would have been toast if he accepted and Mitt knew it. The man is weak, very weak.

Newt is a far better businessman than Mitt. Instead of bringing his brilliance to a company, he chose to go the political route because of his love for America. That is where he put his focus, where his heart is.

He balanced the budget quickly and got things done with opposition. It’s easier to get things done when a company is geared in one direction unlike DC.

Then there is the work ethic - we can agree that is Trump’s mo as well as Newt’s. This endorsement does not surprise me at all. He knows the one more than capable of turning around America. Mitt can fool those everyday voters with lies but never a savvy successful businessman like Trump.

It doesn’t figure to me, at all! I thought for sure Trump knew mitt is weak. I wonder exactly what is going on behind the scene. 3rd party - I see it coming.

This should play well with the Trump Chumps that actually believed he was running.

What ever happened to Trumps investigators on Hawaii? He said they uncovered striking evidence that Obama was not eligible to run, and he would SOON show it, then he disappears. Now the same MSM that made him a Republican star won’t ask him about his past claims.

Trump Chumps never learn!

RE :”heads-noot, tails-mittens...
all the trumpbots heads most certainly are exploding over the ‘tease’ of the last 24 hrs...

HA-HA. This is supposed to HELP Romney??
This looks even worse for Romney than it would have for Newt if he was the one blessed by Trump. Romney wouldnt even join a debate moderated by Trump, yet Trump picks him. .

As I recall there were a few threads in December where some giddy with Newt were singing the praise for Trump.
85 posted on Thursday, February 02, 2012 3:30:20 PM by sickoflibs

Lindsey and now the Donald. If the way these two have been trashed on FR, including by those who are now pushing Newt, I assume there will be mass disavowment of the endorsements.

Why?

Do you always think completely linearly with no attention to context?
54 posted on Thursday, February 02, 2012 1:16:25 AM by SoConPubbie

In hindsight this isn’t surprising bc Romney emphasizes making China play by the rules and that is Trump’s main theme.

Why is it whenever you post something about Myth Romney I get the suspicion you really support him?

76 posted on Thursday, February 02, 2012 6:17:21 AM by sodpoodle

I’m thinking that during his conversations with Newt - Newt stood firm on issues so Trump felt stupid and his ego couldn’t take it.

OTOH - In his conversations with Romney - flip flopper Mitt agreed with Trump on everything and it made Donald feel good.
60 posted on Thursday, February 02, 2012 3:20:07 PM by sodpoodle

I’ll believe it’s an endorsement for Newt when I see it. He’s probably going to announce he’s not going to run for president and nothing else. If he was going to endorse anyone why not just come out and do it.
27 posted on Thursday, February 02, 2012 12:21:21 AM by Terry Mross

We’re being played by everyone of them. Some of the class of 2010 played us. They saw an opportunity to get to congress to cash in.

We all might as well go ahead and throw up and get it over with. Before it’s over Sarah will be cam”pain”ing with Mitts. As will Newt. As will Bachman. As will Santorum. As will Cain if he’s wanted. Ron Paul is the only one who won’t be playing.

And don’t be surprised if Steve Wynn endorses Romney.

Then come 2013, obama is sworn in for a second term and we watch it all go away.

What? FREEPERS were cheering that he was going to endorse Newt and calling him a great conservative.

I've learned from Christine O'Donnell debacle that many conservatives (many Freepers included) are quick to fall for someone who says things they want to hear. Whether or not they are connected to reality, it's irrelevant. Or whether the person's actions in the past--if we look carefully--embodied conservative principles. It doesn't matter either. As long as the person says the 'right' things today, that's what count.

>> You guys who keep knocking Freepers are the most disgusting among any that the candidates might say and do... <<

Excuse me, I'm not knocking other "Freepers" as a whole. Most freepers realize Trump is a con-artist. I'm knocking the small minority of freepers on this board who were (and continue to be) convinced Trump is serious about the birther stuff and is some great patriot who is going to take down Obama. Those freepers are wrong, just like the freepers who swooned over Romney in 2008 and fantasized over a "McCain/Romney" ticket. This is a conservative forum and most freepers are solid conservatives. The small minority who are not deserve to have to actions questioned. I'm going to call freepers out who support liberals, sorry if that offends you.

>> proving once again you love the sound of the bite between your lips as you chew on your fellow freepers. <<

Caww, have you looked in the mirror lately? You're projecting.

>> they also know this is political theater....and we all enjoy the “show” when it’s played as that... <<

Really? I talked with numerous pro-Trump freepers on here when he was toying with a Presidential run and they swore he was serious as a heart attack about his patriotic conservative plans and tea-party values. Any attempt to point out Trump's record didn't match his rhetoric and/or pointing out he would be a terrible candidate for the GOP was meet with the grating of teeth and angry "and just who are YOU supporting for President?!" inquiries, as well as them adamantly insisting facts about Trump's long liberal record of supporting universal health care, gun control, wanting Bush impeached for Iraq, applauding Pelosi, etc., were "lies" and "anti-Trump smears"

Doesn't seem to me they realized it was all an sideshow. I find Michael Savage entertaining but I wouldn't insist that he's not only a good choice for President, but the ONLY good person the GOP can run. In fact, I would never recommend that he run for President. I realize Savage is a sideshow act that makes for good radio, and not a serious policy wonk. But I have yet to see any of Trump's fans admit that this egotistical real estate tycoon has no business setting government policy. Usually it's met with "you just ENVY The Donald's brilliance" and "you must be for Obama cuz you don't want The Donald to expose THE TRUTH to America"

>> we play into as well. But you are wrong to underestimate Freepers...absolutely wrong. <<

You are wrong if you think most freepers agree with you caww... absolutely wrong.
