Why Mitt Romney Hates Republicans
New York Magazine ^ | January 31, 2012 | Jonathan Chait

Posted on 01/31/2012 8:15:56 AM PST by Cincinatus' Wife

The Republican primary campaign has highlighted the barely concealed contempt in which Mitt Romney holds the electorate, especially the Republican electorate. One adviser has expressed his astonishment that GOP voters fall for clowns like Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich:

>>>> “They like preachers,” the adviser said of the tea party demographic. “If you take them to a tent meeting, they’ll get whipped into a frenzy. That’s how people like Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich get women to fall into bed with them.”<<<<

That is an insult putatively directed at Romney’s rivals, but which reflects heavily on the voters themselves. Another fresh insult comes today, by way of John Dickerson, who reports that Gingrich’s assault on Juan Williams worked because "'Williams was a stand-in for Barack Obama in people's minds,' said one Romney adviser."

Gee, whatever could Williams and Obama have in common? Can this be interpreted as meaning anything other than that South Carolina Republicans are a pack of racist buffoons?

Romney’s disdain for the electorate is one of his more deeply rooted traits. During his father’s 1968 presidential campaign, Romney wrote, “how can the American public like such muttonheads?”

I find that contempt pretty well-founded, and it is a relief that Romney does not believe the nonsense he spouts during the campaign. But the persistent awkwardness of Romney’s campaign style reflects this basic tension. It’s easy to try to persuade somebody for whom you have basic respect. It’s persuading somebody whom you consider stupid — but must conceal any trace of your disdain — that’s excruciatingly difficult. Romney’s awkward manner on the trail is the agony of suppressed contempt.

I have no doubt Jonathan Chait would have scathing words about Rick Santorum if he were worth bothering with. They're picked off one by one by the Left and the GOP leadership.

As I noted above, imagine how the Left will characterize Mitt if he is the nominee. And the GOP Establishment wants us to accept him as the "electable" choice.

I'll share over here a Comment I found at this blog:

[quote from] youfamissim| 1.31.12 @ 9:49AM

“Thank You, Jeff - again. 50% of voters do not vote - for a reason. They claim there is nothing to vote for; the two party’s are indistinguishable. 50% of voters is a lot of votes... Reagan did not win with Reagan Democrats. He did get some, but the voters labeled as Democrats were part of the 50% who registered as Democrats - for whatever reason. These are Nixon’s Silent Majority. They only vote when a candidate speaks up for them = Conservatism. Do not forget - Romney chose to run in Mass. He could afford to go anywhere. Mass. was the Right Fit for his views. Mitt ran three times as a Liberal. He tried to Out-Liberal - Ted Kennedy !!! Mitt promoted every liberal cause and policy with compelling remarks. Mitt is NOT a Moderate - which is why he lost in Mass. Few Republicans supported him. Why should they? Liberals would vote for Kennedy, who had more influence and brought them oodles of gov’t gifts. Now Mitt is trying to portray himself as a Conservative - he can’t. His record won’t allow it. Mitt’s liberal bias and past are why Conservatives do not trust him and explains why he can’t attract a majority.

The establishment must attack Newt. They can’t pump up Mitt’s Conservative credentials and Out-Conservative Gingrich. Lord’s comments that establishmentarians think Conservatives “Rubes” and easily deceived is spot on. I really believe finishing a strong and respectable 2nd is their goal. After nearly a century of in the minority, the establishment’s logistics favor that position. Once they assumed the majority, and lost Gingrich’s direction, they morphed into Democrat-Lite. When the Conservative wing of the Republican party wanted to oust them, a Democrat was the only option. The 2006 election was more one of removing RINOs than a Democrat confidence vote. RECALL - Rahm Emanuel demanded no abortion or gun control issues. Democrats needed to appear - Conservative. The establishment try to model their candidates after Democrats - thinking what they promote is the key to victory - Wrong! The 50% who do not, refuse to support either party when there is no difference in their messages. Keeping that 50% at home come election time must be a factor - since that is exactly what the establishment does. This also explains why Conservatism wins when it is promoted. The media who complain Gingrich cannot win, fail to consider what will happen when Mitt and Obama stand face to face - this is when Obama thanks Mitt for health care and supporting liberal causes while governor. Obama will have a trunk filled with examples to convincingly argue their is no difference between them. Will the 50% vote for Mitt? This is what will turn the election.

I want everyone who reads this to remember those supporting Romney - Ann Coulter et al... They DO Not Share your Views !!! They are merchants who know how to create a product for a specific audience - write or champion Conservative material. These are they who act to secure their party invites, etc.... and turn against their target audience.. They have no problem returning the nation to Obama. Afterall - that provides them substance for their next publication.” [end quote]

Actually, since not one shred of evidence was ever offered against Herman Cain, it says more about the adviser.

Ode to the Grand Olde Party, and their BFF, the Obamanator.

When Newt or Paul rocks the GOP Establishment Boat,
The GOP oarsmen pull knives from their boots.
The hacking and slashing puts extreme fighting to shame,
Never, no NEVER rock the GOP Establishment Boat!
The GOP cannot win elections, by choice of their suits,
A RINO Nominee is a Democrat, - - - - one and the same.

Two Party as One Party is what they adore.
“Never give voters a choice,” ( or politicians
Are out of life-time jobs, - - forever more).

As we pay our bills holding our noses as we vote,
The Obamanator holds his cold, steel knife
To America’s throat - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - .

Wow the Liberals and their Astro turfing campaign is loving the brawl now happening in the GOP. I thought the GOP was now the “Big Tent” party. Where different viewpoints were encouraged. There are fiscal, military and social values voters in the party. There is with Ron Paul’s libertarians now a National outreach to limited government and constitutional concerns also offered a voice. The Tea Party is about rooting out corruption and a return to the Constitution.

Those who resent Mitt Romney’s wealth are giving in to the Socialists who view anyone with too much money as a criminal who should be punished. We used to celebrate achievement. The Dems are hypocrites whose politicians extoll income redistribution then hide their assets behind complex Trusts. Like John Kerry who moved his yacht to Rhode Island to escape taxes in his home state.

Romney is viewed with distrust because he was a GOP Governor in a Blue majority Dem state. Wow he compromised in order to govern effectively. Get over it. My concern about NEWT is he is an opportunist. What are his core values and does he hold to them?

Romney is criticized for his donations to his church. Which are consistent with his core beliefs and values. My concern about Romney is he tough enough to deal with the Iranians, Putin, Hugo Chavez and the like. I have no doubts that Newt is tough enough. The World is a dangerous place. We have people who do hate us. We cannot afford a weak President.

This Conservatives eating their own though. Only serves the Dems interests not ours. I don’t understand why many who are Freepers don’t seem to get that?

Also please tell me where its a Crime to get rich in the US? When did Horatio Alger become a criminal??

[ Romney’s awkward manner on the trail is the agony of suppressed contempt ]”””

His mannerisms seem contrived—forced— as tho he has a hair shirt on, or his undies are in a bunch & he cannot get them comfortable. His vocal tones- his hand movements- his goofy smile, which stays pasted on his face, no matter the seriousness of the topic. All just don’t seem very genuine.

He doesn’t fit the ‘jeans & flannel shirts’ crowd & looks like a bad high school play actor when he tries to dress like that.

I just cannot get past the errors in his ‘financial disclosure papers’ which should be accurate. This man claims a 25 year history of experience in ‘running a business’ & nothing rings true..... The bell has a serious crack.

Sometimes he looks like he really cannot stand to be in the midst of the normal working Americans who do appear at his rallys. He cannot have it both ways. He cannot ask for donations from a populace which is out of work & facing foreclosure.

He cannot ask for votes for a murky future when his past includes Romneycare—gun control laws—no Voter ID—Pro choice & getting permission from a JUDGE to get an abortion if your parents won’t sign the papers.

The Mormons I know do not support gun control. They don’t support state judges allowing you to have an abortion if your parents won’t sign for you. They certainly do NOT support Romneycare.

We were fooled by Obama 4 years ago.

We cannot afford to get fooled again.

Khankrumthebulgar:

Horatio Alger was no criminal. Romney is no Horatio Alger. I refuse to worship Romney for acquiring his assets by raping weakened corporations, taking them over, ripping off major fees, guaranteeing the failure of the host he was feeding off, stripping their plants of equipment, firing the workforce (let 'em eat cake!) and, maybe using the name and goodwill of that host corporation to re-open in Bangladesh, paying those workers 7 cents an hour without benefits, bringing the products back here under "free trade," and maximizing the resulting "profits" before selling, cashing out, and moving on to the next victims. We could call this "vulture capitalism" but that would be insult to capitalism and to upstanding vultures who cannot help themselves by rejecting their instincts. Sorry, but all that may not qualify Mittwit for residence in the hoosegow, but I and a LOT of other conservatives are not going (now or ever!) to break out the pom poms and start cheering: Yea, Rah, Rah Mitt!

Also note that neither he nor his father nor any of his four sons have ever served in the military. Military service, as his peer the late Leona Helmsley might say, is for the little people. Mittwit expects those he has fired to do the hey military lifting and dying. On second thought, the troops are probably thankful to be spared having any Romneys deployed with them.

Big tent, my ass! Romney wants to buy, bully and bribe his privileged elitist way to the White House. He has no apparent interest in anything but fattening his trust funds and those of his friends. Newt Gingrich has always been one of us. So has Rick Santorum (who should withdraw and endorse Newt now. So has Herman Cain who has endorsed Newt. So has Rick Perry who has endorsed Newt.

Ron Paul is a barking moonbat and crackpot whose support understandably comes from the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual, anti-American, dope smoking, earmark gobbling, Ahmadinejad-loving, jihad-enabling wings of the Demonrat Party. This is his last time at the rodeo and good riddance.

Willard Mitt Romney has NEVER been one of us, is not one of us and NEVER will be one of us. He is an elitist financial bully. If he manages to financially muscle his way to the nomination, he is going to be flabbergasted at just how many social, military, gun loving, tax (on folks of modest means) hating, pro-life, pro-family Republicans will refuse to vote for him and how they can force his destruction. If the GOP establishment doesn't like that, tooooo bad! Dump the POS now and they can save the humiliation.

No more Bush the Elders, no more Robert Doles (tax collector for the welfare state), no more Gerald Fords, no more John McCains. It's over. In the House, no more John Boehners, no more Dennis Hasterts, or Susan Molinaris, or any other "responsible" quislings lusting after crumb$ from the Demonrat feast or private sector payoffs by special interests intention of screwing over the rest of us. In the Senate, no more comfy quislings like Richard Lugar, Mitch McConnell, John Cornyn, Lamar!!! Alexander, Bob Corker, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, Light Loafers Lindsay Graham, Mark Nancyboy Kirk, Lisa Moocowski, and a whole lot more of their ilk. As any number of monarchs used to say: Off with their heads (politically speaking).

Romney had to "compromise"???? AFTER he claims to have become a pro-lifer, he created Romneycare and put Planned Barrenhood on the board of his socialized medicine scheme "for the little people" as his way of letting them know that, whatever he may claim, abortion still comes first and foremost as his medical plan. He also saw to it that abortions would go for a mere $50 which is cheaper than most non-generic medications. He claims to be pro-family but ordered town clerks to issue gay "marriage" licenses for in state perverts and did absolutely nothing to fight the court decision which purported to find that John Adams, our second POTUS, when writing the Taxachusetts constitution in the 18th century, guaranteed a right to perverts to play at being "married." Suuuuuuure, he did. If liberals are enjoying the brawl, Romney must be having a blast since he is as liberal as Obozo.

The Tea Party was shocked over Obozocare or Obamneycare as one may prefer and over the porkulus bill but also about the fact that our "leaders" like Obozo, Boehner, Reid, McConnell, Romney and so many others so enjoy sticking a shiv in ordinary Americans and laughing all the way to the bank with special interest money and the general attitude of the elitists that law abiding, hard-working, morally conservative and conventional, tax-paying citizens of modest means be damned. Don't kid yourself that Tea Party is a paleoPaulie rally of some sort. Think "silent majority" and Reagan Democrats and Reagan Republicans. All are considered low rent ignorant wogs by our aristocracy like Obozo and Mittwit and their polo playing, Junior Leaguer, idle airhead trust fund baby friends and acquaintances.

What will only serve the Demonrats' interests would be the nomination of that arrogant POS Romney who lacks the slightest clue as to how most of us live. I don't pay $3 million a year in taxes (at 15% no less) and most here don't pay that much either. If you do, good luck to you. I would like to pay that much but if I did I would lack the common touch as much as Mittwit does. I remember his father George Brainwashed Romney. Mitt is at least a second generation idiot. And, BTW, other than boundless greed and arrogance, Mittwit has NO core values. Newt does. Santorum does.
