KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City woman was able to protect herself and her home from multiple intruders over the weekend.
Neighbors said three people forced their way into the woman's home in the 7600 block of Richmond Avenue.
The woman is a cat lover and neighbors said the intruders scratched at the woman's door to get her attention.
"They know she had a lot of cats, and they tricked her and scratched on her door," said neighbor Regina Porter. "They ambushed her."
Police said the intruders were looking for the basement, where multiple firearms were stashed away in safes.
"Someone had to be watching her or casing her to know," Porter said. "A lot of people know she has a lot of weapons because (they were) her husband's and she's a widow."
Investigators said that while the intruders were trying to access the safes, the woman crept away to her bedroom and got another gun. Two of the men ran off and the victim held the remaining intruder at gunpoint and told him police were on the way. The woman eventually let the third person go.

Let the third one go??? What was she thinking?
Glad she is safe but dang...that wasn’t the brightest move.
So she got tired of waiting for the police and let the invader go. She should have called the nearest donut shop.
“When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.”
And yessir, the White Chalk Patrol is right on the ball, usually.
From the KMBC.com comments:
“Carol Tanner
She didn’t let him go. He ran off because the 911 operator hung up on her. And after all the press about people getting charges pressed against them for using guns to protect their homes and themselves I can see where she was hesitant to shoot. I guess we don’t know what we would do unless we were in that situation.
