(CNSNews.com) President Barack Obama says the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade is the chance to recognize the fundamental constitutional right to abortion and to continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.
The 1973 U.S. Supreme Court nationalized abortion law, prohibiting states from deciding on the matter. In his written statement, Obama acknowledged that abortion has been a divisive political issue.
Obama, while serving in the Illinois State Legislature and as president of the United States, has taken a hard line on abortion rights.
In his statement on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade ruling, Obama said it reflects the broader principles of America.
As we mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a womans health and reproductive freedom, but also affirms a broader principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters, Obama said. I remain committed to protecting a womans right to choose and this fundamental constitutional right.
While this is a sensitive and often divisive issue -- no matter what our views, we must stay united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, support pregnant woman and mothers, reduce the need for abortion, encourage healthy relationships, and promote adoption, Obama said.
And as we remember this historic anniversary, we must also continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.
As a state lawmaker in Illinois, he voted four times against legislation to protect the life of a baby that survived a botched abortion. He voted against such legislation at the state level in 2001, 2002 and 2003.
The 2003 bill was assigned to the Illinois Senate Health and Human Services Committee, which Obama chaired at the time. It mirrored a law passed by Congress, which said nothing in federal law should be construed to undermine the Roe v. Wade ruling.
As president, Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare, which would appropriate federal money toward insurance plans that pay for abortions.
On Friday, the Obama administration finalized regulations that order Americans unless they work directly at a church to purchase government-approved health insurance plans that cover sterilizations and contraceptives, including those that cause abortions.
Planned Parenthood also marked the anniversary of the Supreme Court's abortion ruling by setting up a Web site "to show the world exactly what Roe has meant in the past and still means today."
The "Since Roe" Web site invites women to add their own comments about "how Roe v. Wade has made a difference in your life."
India supported the right to choose until it was obvious the corpses piling up were mostly female; now you’re not allowed to kill the baby after discerning the sex, so instead they give birth and abandon the baby to die.
Christians have to open their minds to how other cultures view things.../s
His upbringing is no excuse. Plenty of people were raised in moral cesspools and still managed to get their heads screwed on straight, usually by learning to think for themselves. Our affirmative action president has never had to do anything for himself. Besides, it wouldn’t matter; he’s bought and paid for by the abortion lobby. They are his masters, and he will obey.
UNLESS those sons and daughters are unborn babies. They don't get feel goody remarks about dream fulfillment.
I read his entire statement to my sixteen year old daughter, and she said "That is kind of ironic, isn't it?"
“Daughters . . . chance to have a future.”
Except for the daughters murdered in the womb, of course.
If he wants his grand kids being flushed down the drain, that’s his daughters’ prerogative. Hope he’s happy with that.
Soooo, why is the black church not all over obammys ass over his abortion support???
And what about the black chruch not getting all up on his support for fags???
And haven’t a larger percentage of blacks suffered due to his marxism?
Race war coming? Look at the percentage of blacks with NO job. No hope.
And if it looks like their messiah is going down to de feet?
Why shouldn’t murdering my aged mother be private business, not the concerns of others?
How about my 2 year old causing me so much anguish and trouble and who I can’t support? My decision to snuff out his life with a pillow is no concern of those in my surround.
This is such a lame argument. No woman wants to have an abortion. With a little push back, not to mention birth control, dag, all you gotta do is put on a patch once a month, we really could stop this major murder of the unborn.
Course lots of doctors and Plan Parenthood bureaucrats would lose their jobs and we wouldn’t want that.
What a sicko.
I have wondered about that as well...
How can one “follow” Christ and support abortion, envy, recrimination, Marxism (designed to replace Christianity), non-Biblical sexual unions, etc.? One thing I’ll say about the Catholics - they leave no doubts as to their position on these social issues. If the Church doesn’t raise the standard, who will?
The U.S. population is about 310 million people and had about 1.2 million abortions in 2010.
India had about 2x as many abortions in a population almost 4x as big so I don't think our culture has much to brag about in that area.
Someone needs to ask him - Looking back, if Life had been harder for you in terms of money or status or opportunity - would you have been better off killing your unborn daughters? If not, why not?
How about all the unborn daughters, Mr. Obama?
Abortion is a curse on this nation and we WILL get rid of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Obozo, having an abortion no more makes a girl into a woman than does having a bastard child make a boy into a man.
Arguably, the evil that would result from giving parents absolute life-and-death authority over their minor children, may be more limited than the evil that results from giving the state too much authority to demand that parents treat their children "properly". To be sure, a balance should be struck between these extremes, but I'd suggest it's probably better to err on the side of parental rights than state authority.
What evil little girls he has as daughters... Instead of I had a dream of equality, this dream is to kill black babys.
Quite a difference between King and the President.
Bet his kids are happy to hear mommy and daddy considered them obstacles to overcome on their way to fulfilling their dreams.
As a nurse, I’ve seen SO, SO many women in their 50’s and 60’s with no children. They are usually divorced, and neurotic as HELL. Each and every one of them will lament how lonely they are, how they have no family, how they have no support (and so they are more of a burden on the system). A lot of them aren’t exactly making massive incomes, either. I always wonder how many of them aborted the children they perhaps could have had.
I think many women were sold a bill of goods, and still are — that pursuing nothing but a career in life is the be all end all way to find happiness.
Careers are nice — but really, a career should be a means to support or help support a family — not an end in and of itself.
I pray young women nowadays are finding this out. But I doubt it. I know many who are still falling for the same old lies.
I’ve yet to encounter anyone who made her life better or was able to fulfill all her dreams by having an abortion. Without exception, every successful woman I’ve met worked hard to achieve her success. Yet we’re supposed to believe that all a woman needs to find success is to have an abortion (or two, or three...).
a sicko, with twisted mind.
