Republicans enjoyed one of the fruits of their 2011 state legislative victories on Friday, when the new GOP-controlled Virginia state Senate passed a congressional redistricting map that should help Republicans hold on to eight of the states 11 districts for the next decade.
The map is the same one that the Republican-controlled state House had already passed, but with Democrats still controlling the state Senate, the two chambers were unable to reach an agreement last year.

good news good news. I have been eagerly anticipating the redistricting that would follow our 2010 victories and the wailing and gnashing of teeth that would follow that.
Not great news. We played it safe with the status quo instead of going after another seat.
We came within 1000 votes of defeating Connolly in 2010, but his new district is significantly more Democratic. He is safe now.
Agreed. We have just made the incumbents safer.
