FreeRepublic may have decided to go moderate. But I have not.
I don't think FR is going moderate. On the contrary, most conservatives I know, and most here simply will not change their minds about conservative ideas which will save this country. Is Newt the prefect conservative candidate? Probably not, but you also have to be realistic about the election. So far lately, I like what Gingrich is saying, and I will wholeheartedly support him. It doesn't really matter much at all, if a candidate has all the attributes to satisfy all conservatives, if they have no prayer of winning the presidential election. Newt is indeed a conservative in political thought, and we will fight to keep him on the right path, if he waivers. It's time to choose a horse that can win, and Newt is the obvious choice.

Right. No one said we expect Newt to do this alone. It will take everyone rallying, everyone continuing to work at the grass roots level, through the Tea Party or other outlets, to push for conservative government. People need to stay involved and on top of it — and on top of Newt. And let him know it.
It’s still up to the People to keep their republic, is it not?

we will fight to keep him on the right path, if he waiversNewt has been steadily wavering since the 90s. Did you happen to notice what his 2012 positions are regarding amnesty for illegals, global warming, and Gingrichcare? If he wavers? He's wavering right now! Yet your best idea for putting him back on the right path is to vote for him? Unreal.

You really think a pudgy angry guy can win? It’s nice that he can excite conservatives but I doubt he can win a general election.
