Agreed. The effects of his “let me have my concubine” request will only sink in after S. Carolina and he will not get the nomination.
By keeping him afloat instead of letting the sinking begin, it only guarantees that he and Santorum continue to split the vote and
guarantee
we
get
Romney.
That’s the upshot of endorsing Newt now.
Libertarians and even some social conservatives may be willing to give Newt a pass on his mistressing, but the general public won’t.
And shouting “but, but, but, but Klintoon did it too” won’t help. Sorry. It won’t.
If FReeprs really can’t stomach Santorum, then they should face the music and recognize that their only alternative, now, is Romney.
And it’s not about “forgiveness as a Christian virtue.” I’m plenty willing to forgive Newt for his sins if he’s repentant, which he seems to be.
No, for me the “let me have my mistress, Marianne” story suggests a lack of prudence, lack of judgment, high degree of narcissism and a host of other character flaws. To decide to run for president knowing all that is a further serious flaw in judgment for someone who has his finger on the trigger.
If Newt can convince us that Marianne Gingrich just made this all up, well, then, I’ll reconsider.
Let’s think about it.
“If FReeprs really cant stomach Santorum, then they should face the music and recognize that their only alternative, now, is Romney.”
Boy, are you lost.
“Libertarians and even some social conservatives may be willing to give Newt a pass on his mistressing, but the general public wont.”
Sure they will. Are you too young to remember the days of Bill Clintoon?
“If Newt can convince us that Marianne Gingrich just made this all up, well, then, Ill reconsider.”
I see. Hang a man based on some biter, angry, drunk’s politicial anger towards her ex-husband while being spoon fed that crap by the likes of the liberal lamsestream media network ABC. Some conservative you are.
Go vote for Jesus, but he ain’t running.
I think the "open marriage" thing is a figment of Marianne's imagination. From the bit from the interview I heard today, she say she said "We've been married a long time," and quotes Newt as saying "You want me all for yourself; Calista doesn't care what I do." Sounds as if he just said he wanted a divorce and that it's because Marianne is too clingy and suffocating. Rush mentioned today that he had met Marianne years ago, and she didn't like supporting Newt in his career choice. I saw posted here that she typically called him 10 times a day.
And if Marianne is this bitter and vindictive after -- what? -- 12 years, maybe she is pathologically clingy. God help her and heal her, but I don't think her stewed over recollections are reliable.
To everyone : take special note of which FReepers are working the threads really hard tonight. An offensive has been launched.
