From a previous thread today......
If there truly is a “swingers” vote, Newt gets another bump. (no pun intended)

And if there’s a “divorced” vote, bump Newt up yet another five!

But if there’s a “I can’t stand my ex-wife” vote, Newt beats the Mormon by a LANDSLIDE!!!

Post of the week........LOL

Thanks. That was my post today on ABC Nightline’s so-called big bang. : ~)

But, there’s a “political double standard” when it comes to the troubles of Democrats and the troubles of Republicans. Democrats, assiduously, get away with their problems, while Republicans, assiduously, don’t get away with their problems. This political double standard pattern is several decades old and continuing, with no end in sight.

I’ll take a crack at it.

Because the ‘conservatives’ that swept to victory became pussified then, just as the conservatives we elected in 10 became pussified. Back then, we were all too naive to see it and excused their cowardice.

Today, not so much...though some still refuse to see the truth before them.

It is a huge miscalculation by many here at FR...I can remember when this site really got going we actually cared about character - but you know what they say...this is not your father’s FR.

I've seen quite a bit of "Golden Age Thinking" here lately. Realistically, Santorum has zero chance of being the nominee or defeating Obama, so the alternative is Romney who has a good shot of the former but not so much the latter. Newt isn't a Saint, but he's the best option who does bring strong conservative credentials to the table. And he stands the best chance of illustrating this POTUS' economic failures, if that's what they are, and how to overcome them in the debates and on the campaign trail. His personal issues are in the distant past and between his bitter ex-wife and him. I think most thoughtful voters will reach the same conclusion after a whole lot of chaos and noise. He just has to keep coming back to Obama's record and the dismal prospect of extending it four more years, imo.

“the GOP establishment has their way and Obama will not have a conservative challenger.”

If it weren’t for Newt you wouldn’t even know what a conservative was today.

Who was the only politician that lost his job over “Monica Gate”? It was Bob Livingston.

“If FReeprs really can’t stomach Santorum, then they should face the music and recognize that their only alternative, now, is Romney.”

Boy, are you lost.

I'm with you Jim. Newt is our best (and possibly only) hope to defeat liberalism and socialism in 2012.

Go Newt go!!

I want to see Newt as well.

They are all better than Obama, but Mitt is a mess, Santorum isn't getting traction and Ron Paul is twenty slices shy of a full loaf.

I wish Newt made a few different choices in his political career and made better long term personal life choices; but I want him to be President, I'm not looking to sleep with him. :-)

This man can make a plan and help reverse the problems of this country IMO and will help get us more Congress and Senate Republicans as well IMO.

Keep in mind the government UNIONS are going to spend probably BILLIONS of money from our tax dollars against a rational choice like Gingrich. If big government goes and we fire tons of government workers and nullify pensions, their easy meal ticket will be gone.
The taxpayers are against the desires of government UNIONS and the taxpayers need to win.

“Libertarians and even some social conservatives may be willing to give Newt a pass on his mistressing, but the general public won’t.”

Sure they will. Are you too young to remember the days of Bill Clintoon?

So you must be happy with Obama then...he doesn’t have perfect character either...in fact he doesn’t have any and neither does Newt.

Keep in mind...the bar is pretty low here - NO ONE IS SUGGESTING anything perfect.

But we can do a lot better than Newt, we deserve, our country deserves it and our children NEED IT!!!
