The BLS website, actually, is rather well-equipped for you to drill down into all sorts of data (and the people who pick up the phone are rather helpful--but that was years ago).

I'll do the research for you if you want, but I charge an hourly rate.

Many of these December jobs are temporary, and when they are let go won’t have enough time on the books to collect unemployment insurance anyway. They show up as a gain, but the reverse isn’t true because they look at different stats to determine who loses their job.

Counting how may people are paying employment taxes each week and not how many are filing for unemployment is a much better way of determining the correct figure, but only the IRS or SS admin could give them the raw data and I don’t believe they are.

BLS does not use unemployment insurance claims in any fashion when calculating the unemployment rate.

I was flipping the dials at 8:30 AM as the numbers were announced. CNBC guys with exception to Rick S (Tea Party Guy)were all foaming at the mouth with delight as to how this would help ZERO.

Mark Zandy from Moodie`s appeared to be doing himself under the table, he was just so passionate about how this would help Obama.

Was pretty disgraceful, I did not hear a word about Christmas temp jobs, but I did flip the dial to CNN and Fox/MSNBC

... It has been said that BHO is the luckiest politician in America ...

It really is better to be lucky than good. If gas prices go down to $2.00 a gallon, the housing market turns around and unemployment is 6.x% by November then BO will probably get reelected.

Same with my business.. We are bringing more people.. However, I expect that energy costs to go up later this year.

holiday bump.
This will cause them to overestimate the january numbers - the january numbers will be readjusted sometime in february, and then we’ll see a decline.

I see the MSM have already begun their new year's run of “everything is bright and sunny” as they begin to schill in earnest for the Obamanation ahead of the election.

PMSNBC for example has the the employment numbers in huge font on their website while right next to it is a hit piece on Santorum —all stage no doubt to help the TPTB make sure that Romney is the RINO candidate.

It's so transparent it's ridiculous.

“December jobs are temporary...”

__________________________________________________________

Responsible reporting would emphasize this. A temporary rise of employment ALWAYS happens EVERY December. It will go back to normal in January.

“Mark Zandy from Moodie`s appeared to be doing himself under the table, he was just so passionate about how this would help Obama.”

Mark Zandi has been in the tank for Obama from day 1. If you listened to his forecasts in the past you would of been taken to the cleaners. The horrible thing is McCain actually had him as an advisor in 2008 so the MSM always claims he is bi-partisan.

That’s right, we’re in recovery now, so shut up about the “recess” appointments, et al.....

This doesn't make sense. According Obama, Republicans have killed the recovery for political purposes by refusing to pass another stimulus. Yet, the unemployment figures have improved. He'll take credit.

He'll be reelected in 10 months. The question in the fall will be whether the GOP can hold on to the House.

Hmmm... Must have gotten my wires crossed, thought they did look at those figures because it left out those who stopped looking completely.

This is the same BLS that says there is no inflation in the economy, that is, if you don’t count food and fuel. Reminds me of what Marion Berry once said: “If you don’t count the killings, Washington DC actually has a low crime rate.”

James Pethokoukis:

"Those headline economic numbers are terribly misleading, hardly reflecting the devastation most Americans still see every day. An 8.5 percent unemployment rate? Please. If the size of the U.S. labor force was as large as it was when Barack Obama took office, the unemployment rate would be 10.9 percent. But since so many people have gotten discouraged and stopped looking for work– and thus disappeared by government statisticians —  the jobless number has been artificially depressed..."
