I have a young Border Collie named Freckles.

She is far more intelligent and vastly more pleasant to be with than your average progressive. Easier on the eyes than most as well :-)

Seriously, that dog picks up on what your intentions are...these Border Collies are quite amazing dogs. I recommend them highly as companions and Frisbee partners.

if you ever see Border Collie’s work sheep, they are genius and know where the sheep are going before they go there..A thrill to watch them in person...my friend got a border collie when her dog died and without any training, herds her chickens into the coop every evening....unbelievable intelligence bred into them....

My BC is named Molly. She is my first BC, and quite an adjustment from the dogs (mostly terriers) I had before her, vastly smarter and much more willing to please. You have to use a much gentler approach to discipline, as they are far more sensitive. On numerous occasions I have seen her learn something new in a single trial.

BCs are absolutely not for everyone, however. Their activity level is off the charts. They HAVE to have something to do, and more to do is always better. If you don't provide something for them to do, they will find something themselves, and the chances are very good you won't like what they find on their own.

Molly was a holy terror for the first four years of her life. She settled down quite a bit after that. At age eleven, she still wants to play more than anything else in the world, and that includes eating.

The best play toy for a BC is a farm, if you can afford one.
