(AP)WASHINGTON — Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has failed to qualify for Virginia's March 6 Republican primary, a development that complicates his bid to win the GOP presidential nomination.
"After verification, RPV has determined that Newt Gingrich did not submit required 10K signatures and has not qualified for the VA primary," the Republican Party of Virginia announced early Saturday on its Twitter website.
Perry also fell short of the 10,000 signatures of registered voters required for a candidate's name to be on the primary ballot, but former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Texas Rep. Ron Paul will be on the ballot.
State GOP spokesman Garren Shipley said volunteers spent Friday validating petitions that the four candidates submitted by the Thursday 5 p.m. deadline to the State Board of Elections. Shipley was not available early Saturday to discuss the announcement posted on the website.
Failing to get on the ballot will be a major setback for Gingrich, who has tried to use his recent upsurge in popularity to make up for a late organizing start. Ironically, Gingrich had a slight lead over Romney, with others farther back, in a Quinnipiac poll of Virginia Republicans released earlier in the week.

Gingrich and Perry didn't have the organization to get valid signatures.
Gingrich has clearly lacked money to maintain his organization. Perry has the money, but with his low poll numbers, it's tough for him to keep a motivated organization in place.

The consensus on TV on poli talk shows is that if Perry and Gingrich could not qualify for Va. then they have weak campaigns and don’t deserve to move forward.Also...that Obama won the battle and the GOP Boehner all look like idiots.No GOP rep is stating loud and clear so the sheeple hear that Obama did not want new jobs with the pipeline.They are predicting Obama wins this battle and act as if he is doing a dandy job.It is all beyond insane.
I honestly have no idea. That is a good question. I’ve heard that some states have revised their rules to allow for conservative inroads. Obviously, Virginia didn’t.

Since when is the Freeper “Huck” Mike Huckabee, the former Governor of Arkansas and GOP hopeful form the 2008 election cycle? The member’s page is pretty clear, and it really doesn’t reflect the Mike Huckabee I happen to know (and no - I’m not a fan by any stretch).
It depends on how the voting machines are set up. If there’s no “write-in” option at the machines, then there’s no write-in option. Even if there were a write-in option, it would require a massive communication effort because the poll workers probably will do nothing to encourage write-ins.
